How many times do you guys need to justify your purchase and put it up against the Maverick. What is this 4 times already ? Remember where the name comes from

I haven't read all the posts but the Maverick looks to be the same DAC as the Grant Fidelity Tube DAC-09.

I am interested in hearing about listening comparisons between the Zhalou vs. Maverick vs. Eastern Electric - please share with your fellow AC'ers.

NB

Really? I thought Eve was the birth of the Best.  :o

Yeah Shek, you can kill two birds with one trip, hear my system and pick up the DAC. Gimme a call when you get back.

You're not a well man.

Must be why I like you.

So I'm now going to have to score Bill's classD amp to go with the Tom Cruise 1, I mean Maverick 1, and lock myself in the office for a weekend to listen.

Well, good reason not to listen to the other half for the weekend.  :thumb:

Did you borrow the Dac ? Just make sure you replace the tube and give it a good listen. you can get them cheap enough.

Not yet, Deepak is getting it routed to me.

I have to drive up to Lancaster in an hour and meet the Pumpkinking to get his classD amp. Gonna set it up with my recently upgraded Reference 3s and the T. Cruise 1, it'll be a show!

Edit: Dammit, bought a new spool of speaker wire and banana plugs, but I don't have good inter-connects for classD -> Mav 1 connection. Time to shop.

I am using a National 396a .It is similar to the Raytheon. The favorites are listed here. If you have a forward sounding system try the western electric

Well I like the description of what the Raytheon 5670 Windmill Getter will do for the Mav 1, and a guy on eBay has them for $30 a pr, guess I'll order them.

There is one thing I would like to mention:  I don't think it's possible to bypass the Maverick's pre section while listening with the usb, unless of course I'm doing something wrong which wouldn't shock me.  Perhaps someone else who has listened could chime in.

OK Ken,
this is the response from Ryan to your question:

"The volume bypass control (direct button) will work with all audio inputs, including the USB input. The only thing volume bypass doesn't affect is the headphone output."

Cheers

I haven't read all the posts but the Maverick looks to be the same DAC as the Grant Fidelity Tube DAC-09.
http://www.grantfidelity.com/site/Grant_Fidelity_Tube_DAC-09

All pretty much based on this
http://www.pacificvalve.us/XianshengDAC01.html

It looks like the same basic circuit and components with a slightly different physical layout.  The Xiansheng and Grant have two RCA analog inputs on the rear panel, while the Maverick has one set of RCAs on the rear panel and one 1/4" stereo input on the front panel.  The Maverick additionally has the volume control bypass switch.

I don't expect the Maverick to compare to a $750 Sabre 9018 based DAC.  I would like to take the optical output from one of my Airport Express, which is currently using it's analog output, into a DAC to hopefully produce a better sound.

I just want to know if, in the spectrum of optical input-equipped $200 DACs, is the Maverick the clear choice?
