I-Pod help!
« on: 1 Mar 2010, 03:39 pm »
I for some stupid reason, I grabbed my "I-Tunes" folder from "My Music" and slid it on to my Decktop! Then I went to my I-Tunes icon and I-Tunes is blank! OMG! How dumb was I!  Ok, I will not do it again, but how do I get it all back?
It is all still on my I-Pod, but I am afraid to sync them thinking it will erase my I-Pod!
I did not know that "I-Tunes" needs to be in "My Music".
 Help!

If that is all that happened, you should be able to drag it back into "My Music" and see your library.

It does not have to necessarily be in "My Music", but the library folder location does have to match the iTunes Media folder location under Edit > Preferences >Advanced.

Steve, I did drag it back and still when I click on my I-Tunes icon all it says is Music ...... then below that, Download music and next to that Import your CDs.

There is nothing there! Its all blank!

Should I just hook up my I-pod and see what happens?
Thanks.

No, if your Music library is empty and automatic synchronization to iPod is enabled, you will delete all of the songs from your iPod.

When you look under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, what does it show for the iTunes Media folder location?

This is what it says,    C:\Users\Michael\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media

When the iTunes program was opened and didn't find any existing library files, it created a new (empty) set of iTunes housekeeping folders and library files.

When the original iTunes folder was dragged from the desktop back to the Music folder it was placed inside the newly created iTunes folder. (iTunes\iTunes).  From there it was just a matter of renaming the new folder 'Old_iTunes', and dragging the original iTunes folder within it back up one level under Music.

Tunes are again playing!
