Hey all,
Much as I'd like to keep this lovely amp, it doesn't seem right to have it sit unused when it should be making music.
This is not your standard issue SP3. It's been modified with Sonicap platinum caps by AV123 forum member Johnzm.
The amp comes some extra tubes for tube rolling fun, and I believe the amp has the following tube complement installed: (I'll have to double check)
brimar 12ax7
RCA cleartop 12au7
JAN 6922's
The power tubes are stock, but as I mentioned earlier, they need to be replaced. I am getting an occasional sort of clicking sound in one channel. I swapped the left and right power tubes and found that the noise followed the swap, leading me to believe there's a worn out or faulty tube. There's plenty of options out there for power tubes for this amp. A set of Valve Art 350b's make a lovely and popular choice and are available for about $75.
I have all the original packaging, down to the white gloves, so shipping wouldn't be a problem, though this thing weighs 56lbs, so local pickup from Los Angeles 90049 is highly encouraged.
It cost me a quite bit more than a run-of-the-mill SP3, (The Sonicaps alone were $180) and by all accounts is quite a step up from the stock version. Cosmetic condition is excellent.
I believe this amp to be a one-of-a-kind.
