I doubt I will - I am still very happy with my modded SB3, in spite of seeing the Transporter, Duet, and other units from Logitech coming out.

I would like the Duet remote, but increasinly suspect I will just continue to wait, and eventually source a used iPod Touch to use as a remote some time in the future.

Agreed!  Buy an iPod Touch or use a netbook.  The only benefit the SB Controller provides is the ability to fully configure the Receiver but that can be done from Squeezebox Center.

I will definitely jump on the SB Touch when it's released for the 24/96 and possibly the ability to run without having a Squeezebox Center running continuously.  It will certainly make for a great portable solution.  Will it sound better than the SB3 or Duet?  I hope so but, to be honest, the SB3 and Duet Receiver work for me fine for everything short of critical listening.

There are three apps I know of that will control squeezeboxes.  I use Squeemote.  I think there is another called iPenguin and i forget the other one.   It was $7.99.  It works fantastic and just like the ipod menus/controls on your pod/phone.  You get the artwork and can control multipule squeezeboxes at the same time.  Plus it is really easy to set up playlists.  Its great imho.

I am using iPeng with the touch.  That is why I bought a SB classic instead of the Duet.  I would probably prefer the Duet but I can check my fantasy scores with the touch too  :D

Did they stop selling the Duet reciever separately?  They retailed for only $150 so you can get one cheap and use your phone/pod.

I don't know much about Squeezebox's, so what your saying is if I get the Squeezebox receiver then I can stream music from my laptop to my HT setup with Logitechs software and if I want a remote I can use app of my choice on my ipod touch? Is that correct?? All my music is on my laptop(PC) and I'm looking for a way to stream it to my AV receiver, so the Duet receiver is the way to go?

If you have a ipod toch and you want to stream a Duet reciever will work great.  It has no screen so that is why the touch is needed.  It works great.

Now thats what I call cheap and cheerful. Thank you some much for taking the time to explain that, now I know what everyone on here is talking about when they reference Squeeezebox. I suspect that some have the one thats 2K but for me a Duet will be perfect and it adds the DAC I need also. Will be ordering one very soon I think.

Or get a used Squeezebox classic (like SB3).

Then still use your iPod touch or iPhone to control it.  iPeng app is about $10.

Just point the netbook browser to the same URL as your home SqueezeSever one.  Frankly it's the same way iPeng or other Squeeze apps work...the SqueezeServer web interface is a published URL, accessible inside your network.  And the web GUI has skins if you don't like the default one.

This topic is beginning to feel like it should be in discless circle. (edit: well, guess I have some pull around here.  :)    )

Question: can I still use the iTouch to control a SB Receiver if I use FLAC files?

It's my understanding that iTouch does not support FLAC.  Is this correct?

The itouch (iPod touch) is many things.  What you are likely referring to is using it as an iPod (i..e local music stored on your iTouch).  Apple's iTunes software does not allow FLAC (rockbox hack does).  HOWEVER, you are confusing our use of the iPod touch here.  We are simply using it as a wireless remote control via one of the 3rd party apps you can buy and download.  No music is being used on your iTouch in this scenario......just a wireless app talking to the Squeezebox server located on your music-based computer.  That Squeezebox server can have many different music formats (MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, WMA, FLAC, WAV, OGG Vorbis, etc.).

I use the Windows Home Server plug-in and all my music files are stored on the same Acer Easystore H340.

My router is an Apple Airport Extreme, so I don't have the WHS configured for web access.

There is an option for Web Control inside settings control panel of WHS plug-in.  Is that correct url to type in?

And how good is browsing a large library using any of these options?  (my ideal solution would be to be able to use iTunes interface on laptop to control Squeezebox)

edit: found it on page 17 of manual.  :)

I saw this ad on CL..does this price seem reasonable? There is a picture of it and it has a display, the picture didn't copy here I don't think. Is $200 cheap and cheerful or should I just consider Duet. I find some great stuff on Craigslist, got my JBL E80's for $150..
