These lovelies need their own thread.  And good lord, the curly/burl maple sample photo gives me a lot of unseemly tingles...

Nice job on yet another wonderful looking speaker, Jim and Dennis.  I can't wait to audition a set.

Images are below, but here is a link to them....  http://www.salksound.com/speakers_songseries_SongBirdqwt_images.shtml

I was thinking a pair of SongBird's + integrated amp would be a great addition to my bedroom... I just don't think the Mrs. would go for it considering "You have a perfectly good pair of Speakers and receiver in the basement you should just move up here." I need to find a way to break the old paradigm speakers & sony receiver...

OK, here is the story behind these four pairs...

Last November we had a staff meeting and announced that anyone who was interested could participate in a little contest.  They would each have the opportunity to design a pair of SongBird's using any veneer or hardwood they wanted.  The only caveat is that the veneer and/or hardwood they used would have to be scrap.  There were no other limitations placed on their interpretation of the basic cabinet design.

I told them that when they were finished, we would put them on audiocircle in the form of a poll to see who's pair would be the most popular.  Four people took up the challenge and these four pairs were the result.

I was hoping they would have the speakers finished in time for the holidays (which didn't quite work out).  But I called them together on December 23rd and told them that the speakers they were working on would be their's when finished.  They seemed quite pleased with this new twist.

Now, the only thing left is to set up a poll.  Since this thread now exists, is there any way to make it into a poll?

Made from scrap ? I am glad to see you are recycling. Can you also tell us the staff member who designed each one .

That pair (Maple) also was the fisrt to catch my eye. Very nice combination of woods.  My second choice would be the Waterfall Bubinga. With a pair of HT2-TL speakers coming, it looks like I will get the chance to build another custom preamp around a pair of Jim's speakers.

I would vote for the Maple pair.

No surprise there given my that speakers are finished in a beautiful Birdseye Maple.

I think wood baffles are a nice accent.  Definitely my preference every time.

Jim, Brenda wants the Maple pair!  Two tone wood with the contrasting grain caught her eye big time.

Hey now.... I think that waterfall bubinga looks familiar. My wife and I both vote for the maple, very stunning, although we have a small forest of that bubinga in our house right now.

All are outstanding.

The maple caught my eye first because it is so unique.  The rosewood is also very nice.

I think that you need to start a new topic to include a poll.  Rather than start a new topic, click the start new poll button, then just delete this topic.

I don't think he'll be needing that official poll.  Although all are lovely, as one would expect from Salk speakers, it's going to be the maple pair by a landslide!   :D  But nonetheless, I included the poll.  Everyone exercise your voting privelege.

I foresee a pair of these in my future serving as surrounds. Great addition to the Song lineup, and great finishes as always!

I don't usually partake in polls, BUT....since I have a pair of baffle-less HT2TL's on the way  :thumb: I will profess my desire for the redgum version of the Songbird. I find the look of the baffle-less speakers to be both pure yet exotic. A design implementation of both physical and auditory beauty. Sure wish I had enough $ left to order the redgums as well, since I have a nice basement room that they would be sheer perfection in!!!!!!!

Second set are those the maple ones?  Those are all very nice looking.  I just found my newsletter in spam I gotta get around to reading it now.
