Ready Acoustic Chameleon Frames

I ordered a few of these for my first few panels that I am building and have a few questions.

Since there will be no rigid internal frame, what is the best way to go about mounting the panels to the wall?  I was thinking about mounting some 1x1's first to create a small air gap behind the panels, and then mounting the panels to the 1x1's.

How should I attach the hooks to the panels?

I like an additional air gap behind the panel myself.  I added a 1 inch piece to the frame and just hung them on finishing nails.

Did you just push them onto the finishing nails?  Or did you use some sort of hook?
