I just saw the film last night, and have just finished reading through this thread. A lot of what I read here was predictable, so the first thing I want to say is this: I have a policy that I try and stick to when I see movies (well, with the exception of English period piece chick flicks lol)...I want to give the director, the writer, the actors, etc, the complete benefit of the doubt from the very minute the opening credits begin to hit the screen. In order to accomplish this, I take the position that I"m going to COMPLETELY sell/mark/geek out to the film and allow myself to see things in the manner they want me to see them. I'm not thinking about whether I've seen the basic plot line before, or wishing they'd have done something this way or that way instead, I'm just letting the movie play out with as little prejudgment and analysis as possible.

That being said, I was completely captivated by Avatar. I fell head over heels for a damn CGI character (I don't know how to spell her name), and I loved every minute that I was able to spend time in the world of the Na'vi. I saw it in 3-D but will definitely hit the IMAX before it leaves town.

Thumbs WAY up from me!  :thumb:

Are these tickets more expensive than normal?  Mine seem to cost $4 more than prices for different movies in the same set of theaters ($15 versus $11).

Am pretty sure the 3D and IMAX tickets were more than the standard $11....

Yeah, you've also got to pay for the 3D glasses, which most people are not returning after the movie.

I bought tix on Fandango for tomorrow. 3D IMAX... $16.50 + $2 charge each!  :o Can't wait though... it took me two weeks just to find a baby sitter.

I went to see the 3D 7:15pm show, and the theater was packed.  I was surprised, since the movie has been out so long.  We had to sit at the front.

As for the movie, I thought it was fantastic.  Personally, I could care less about the storyline, because the visuals and ideas within the movie were so astounding.  I thought it was wonderful.

The same could be said for Star Trek:  Haven't we seen this before?

In fact, couldn't you say that about every single movie that comes out?  Can you tell me a recent movie that has a different storyline from any other movie that came before?

There's nothing new under the sun. (the Bard?)
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The trick is to just let go and
see what the director has in store for you. Either is works or
it doesn't.

Finally saw this, in IMAX 3D, very good movie, great visuals, brisk pacing, nice effects...somewhat on the shallow side with regard to the storyline. I enjoyed the 160 minutes or so, it went quickly.

4/5 points.
