I think tone controls are one mans salvation, and anothers hell. The "best" tone controls I have used are Quad, and Luxmans "tilt" versions actually, but thats a long time ago...
Nowadays, if done right, using a computer we have options we didnt even think of before:

I myself use the simple Inguz roomcorrection with my Squeezebox, this is used up to app. 300 hz.

I've bugged James about doing a Bryston equalizer, and I still think it's a good idea...

Yes!!!!!!

I will buy a Bryston power amp again one day... but until they make an EQ or at least a preamp with tone controls, I'm going to match the Bryston power amp with a McIntoch C46 preamp.

If you have a good cd system such as the BCD 1 why would I want to utilise a lap top or computer for the spearhead?

If Musical Fidelity came up with something long ago rather that jack the whole system why cant Bryston come up with an additon. After all I noticed that in many hi-fi shows the dealers displaying their wares only do so with selective cds. It is when the public start bringing their own cds for them to play ( which some are relunctant to do so) does one realise that not all should be beleived at the show

Well, it's up to them, obviously. A Bryston eq would be the ultimate. If the demand is there, I can't see them not manufacturing one. As tempting as the McIntosh preamp is (and it is very tempting,) I feel going with Bryston for both pre and amp produces better results. It's that whole synergy thing.

 Maybe

it would be a good idea to sign up a petition for them to at least look into devising a tone control box.

 What do you all think.

hello folks

If you guys want tone controls get this http://www.accuphase.com/model/e-250.html

But don't expect the studio neutral soundstage you get from Bryston either.

Nah, Accuphase is a colored sound, imo. It is good equipment though. It's just not for me, and I bet the other members of this particular board.

I would have to agree...I would love tone controls as well.

I always thought that tone controls cause undesirable phase shifts, disrupting image and transient response.

You may be right there Robb...which is why it would be nice to have a switch to take it out of the loop when not in use.As I mostly listen to older music I certainly could benefit from it.

James

any chance of chipping in here to see what can be done as there seems to be quiet a few that welcome the idea. After all we all love music . some cds are better than others so why not have a compromise tool to enhance those old priceless cds and even newer ones not well recorded

Hi nobel,

We are up to our ears in other projects so tone controls are not something we would have a chance to look at any time soon - sorry.

That's too bad, but no problem. The other projects are worth it, I take it.
