I've yet to meet or hear of anyone that's bought a Herbie's Audio Labs turntable and hasn't been happy with it.

Happy Holidays!

Second the Herbies Mat. Can't go wrong with it.

My unit is a JVC QL-Y66F.

Herbie's mat worked very well on all the tables I had with metal platters.  My current table has an acrylic platter.  When combined with the Herbie's mat, it sounded over damped to my ears.

I gave the Herbie's mat to a friend who has a metal platter.  He loved it just as much as I did on my metal platters.

That's a common result with acrylic platters, especially "matless" acrylic platters intended to be used with a clamp. Herbie's grungebuster Turntable Mat is designed and formulated specifically for these acrylic-platter turntables and are popular with VPI owners and others.

(The standard Way Excellent II Turntable Mat usually works very well as an upgrade for acrylic platters that are provided with a felt mat from the manufacturer.)

I use the thick rubber mat that comes w/ the Technics TT. Great bass w/ it.

I replaced the Technics rubber mat with a Herbies Way Excellent II mat and the difference was not subtle and immediately apparent. If you have a DD TT with a metal platter, the Herbie's products can't be beat IMO.

I have two DD tables and I use the Funk Firm Achromat on both of them, a 5mm on my Luxman and a 3mm on my Rotel. Along with a good clamp they're amazing. The sound difference between them and a factory rubber mat is night & day.

I had the same experience with Herbie's mat vs the Technics rubber mat.

The rubber mat is great for when I clean my LPs on an old Technics though!

I have not tried other mats, but I like the thick rubber mat Technics supplies. My system has a enjoyable balanced sound with it. While others may be better, I'd rather add the money from buying new $75+ mat, and purchase of a better TT instead. I may try cork sometime as its pretty cheap. For now I'm buying used LPs and keeping my eye out for a better TT at a good price, but when I get a better TT a mat is still a low priority for me.

For the Linn LP-12 and AR turntables with the metal platters, the original felt mats always sounded more open and dynamic.
