Starting the Xmas rush early,Walmart is advertising a Sharp 52" 1080P 120HZ HDTV for a thousand less than the usual price-This is the LC525b57UN model that has some favorable reviews.Has anyone seen this tv? Is this the deal of the century? I know there are several people here considering new tv"s and this might be a way to go at what appears to be a substantial savings.Any comments?

Not sure. I'll have to check that one out. The wife is wanting a new unit for her "girl cave" (as opposed to our "man cave"). That's not one of the units I was researching, but for that price I'd be willing to help them get it off their hands. It's also bigger, by several inches, than what she's wanting but I'm sure she'll get over it.
By the way, Google didn't recognize that model number. ??
Today I viewed a 50" 240Hz Samsung for $2200.
Nice.

Walmart is aggressively pricing HDTV's for the holiday season.
This is a good thing for us consumers as it will drive down HDTV prices in general as others look to compete.
I am already seeing the impact Walmart can have on pricing when it comes to DVD's/Bluray's.

I stood in line 5:30 Saturday morning and got one of the 2 that were available at the local Walmart.
They also had great prices on some 42 and 46 in sets. I believe $499 and $699. Kinda doubt there is much left at this point.
So far I'm happy with it. I know there are better TVs, but at $1028 out the door with an extended warranty to 3 years, seemed like a tough deal to beat.

At their stores, Costco is giving out a coupon book for Nov. 27-Nov. 29, 2009. There is a $300 off one for a Vizio 55 inch 1080p 120Hz LCD. I believe it is regularly $1,499.99 so it would be $1,199.99. There is a also a $60 off a Vizio 1080p 32 inch LCD and $35 off a Sony Blu-Ray player. They have dropped the price $100 on the 55 inch Vizio 1080p LED (now $1,899.99). I am planning to move my 4 year old 42 inch Vizio 1080p LCD from the bedroom and replace the 32 inch 720p LCD (and probably use that for a computer monitor) in the kitchen when I get a deal on something. I bought a mount at Costco last month that will handle up to a 55 inch set. I'm hoping to see a coupon for a couple of hundred off that 55 inch LED in Jan.

Are you delusional? There is already no profit margin in tvs. There is only one way that tvs will get cheaper and that is if they become junk. There is a reason that one tv is cheaper than another and that is because it is simply not as good. Check out the warranty on a Visio and compare it to one of the major manufacturers, also google them to see what people in the real world have to say about their experiences.
If consumers continue to buy tvs solely because they are the cheapest then all quality tvs will dissapear and we will be left with a bunch of junk .
As video drives the majority of av sales and there is already no money in video you will see the independant dealer disappear. If the independant dealer disappears where will you go to listen to speakers or compare cables?
Do you think the spotty faced youth at Walmart can give you the benefit of 30 + years of audio experience?
For an independant dealer to pay the bills and keep the doors open they need to see about 35% profit on an item. A quality tv at full margin is already only paying 20% , then you have to drop another $200 to match one of the box stores. Now the independant is losing money selling you the tv but he's hoping to make it up in the cables you buy. But of course you bought them over the internet.
So do you really think that you can drive the price of a tv lower ? All you are doing is killing your only real friend in the av world. Your local independant stereo store.
Sorry to hijack the thread but I am very proud of the wonderful people that shared their knowledge and passion with me over the years. People whos passion lead to me choosing this as my career.
Think wisely about you purchases and where you make them. The money you spend at the local stereo store typically stays in your community. It's not going into some faceless corporate coffer. Maybe pay a little extra but feel happy about it because you helped keep your friend and neighbor in business.

I share your sentiments, Electricbear. That is the case in many markets other than audio/video. I can understand price driven decisions for those truly in a financial situation where pennies must be watched. For most others, consider who you are supporting with your purchase. I believe Walmarts ethics are questionable.

last year, for my wife's b-day, (2 days after x-mas), i bought a 32" sceptre full hd lcd hdtv - 1080p, 16:9, 1920 x 1080; it cost me $450 delivered from tiger direct. not a bad deal, before the january sales, i thought. i only got it, cuz it was cheaper than a comparable monitor. i don't have cable, or an antenna, so it doesn't get used for anything except watching dvd's.
while i wouldn't set foot in a walmart for any reason, the idea of tv disappearing is certainly a pleasant thought, tho...
