oneinthepipe, the BPA-PCB NOS socket from your first source suggestion "looks right" (like the Cinch) but I would have to have the dimensions (especially height above the board) to be sure.

Your second souce says out of stock, and since that is an out of production socket, I expect permanently.

Frank

The height is 7/16" above the top of the circuit board.  Additionally, according to the representative @ Pacific TV, the top of the socket could be relieved about 1/16", if necessary, making the height above the circuit board about 3/8".

oneinthepipe: "You Do It Electronics" may have these.  I have also seen them at Home Depot

None in the correct size at YDI Electronics.  Didn't try Home Depot.  Ordered a 100 from Digi-Key (the minimum order) for $4.XX plus $2.06 shipping.

On the New Sensor site they have regular EH and gold.  What's the difference?

Thanks.

Digi-Key as suggested.  :thumb:

Painted black as suggested.  :thumb:

I think I'm fine with the looks. Tubes extended through the top would be very cool looking tho.

The looks are acceptable by me.  I'll be ordering tubes and spacers today for my Ultra DAC.  Did you just spray paint the spacers?  I've got some flat black Rustoleum spray paint, so I guess I'll just go with that.

That is exactly what I used because I had it. Just finger tightened them in, with only one coat and no primer they scratch easy......

Instead of painting the spacers black, couldn't you just wrap them with black electrical tape? Seems like a quick fix to me...

Thank you very much, but there is no point. So, how many spacers are needed for this job?
Also, what is going with the low sockets? Are we waiting for Frank's approval?

Six spacers for the cover extension.  If changing sockets, there are spacers under the PCB, but I don't know how many.  Waiting for word from Frank about the sockets.

OK, the Cinch sockets provide a top surface about 1/2" above the PC card so the ones you found that say 7/16" inch high will work.

To remove the old sockets without destroying the plated through holes they are mounted in requires cutting each socket pin close to the socket itself and then removing them one by one.  You will need a solder sucker or lots and lots of solder wick or a supply of round wood toothpicks to remove the solder from the opened socket holes. You will need 1/4" 6-32 threaded hex spacers under the boards replacing the 1/2" spacers now used.  Run a 1/2" long 6-32 machine screw up from the bottom and screw the spacer down tightly on the top side of the chassis bottom, then drop the board on the protruding screws and fasten from the top with 6/32 nuts.  Don't smash any wiring!

Then the 6CG7 tubes should fit with the cover in place.

Regards,

Frank

PS  There are seven whoops, eight spacers under the board that will need to be replaced.  Use Digi-Key part 2208K-ND.

Maybe you could just cut the nipples off the tops of the tubes so they'll fit without needing to mess around with spacers or anything?

Indeed, I am!  I am trading in my Songtowers toward the new speakers.  I am REALLY looking forward to them!!!  I'll post pics on the Salk forum when they arrive, but it's at least a month until then.

I like that as well although in my case I will be very nervous measuring for the holes. I think I will only get one chance or risk having really big holes.
