It is a very nice looking unit.

Unfortunately, for those of us that want to connect to a computer with USB and play 24/96 high resolution files, I believe the PCM2704 limits that USB connection to 16/48.

Excited to be offering this soon for sure!  I'm pretty geeked about getting ahold of a demo unit, for that matter...

I took some pictures of the new DAC-25 and placed a CD in the photo for scale.  It's surprising just how large it is.  Same depth as most other components, but about 1/2 as wide.

Below is the link to a slideshow, but I have placed a few shots here as well.

Hey, John, are you sure there isn't a 6922 tube in there?  It sure looks similar to another famous DAC with same specs, but that DAC has a 6922 in there  :eyebrows:

Hi Jon.  It appears to be "tubeless", but if it is any consolation, some might describe the sonic as tubelike (as in lacking edginess and digititis) :green:

No worries.  I generally don't like tubes in my source most of the time  :green:

hi onix dealers.  is this already available?

is it optimized for either high or low impedance phones? does the volume knob also controls the analog (se/bal) outs?

hi Jon L,

w/c similar DAC w/ tube were you referring to?

thanks,

The Onix DAC-25 is available.  For a specific lead time you should contact the dealer whose territory you are in.  We've tested it with both high and low impedance headphones and both worked fine. (specifically 300ohm Sennheiser HD600's and 80ohm Beyerdynamic DT770 pro's)

The "similar" DAC that was referenced above is the Music Hall DAC 25.2.  There are certain similarities due to price point (many DACs in that price range have similar features) but they are not the same product.  They both use the Burr Brown PCM179x converters, but the Music Hall has a tube buffered output, while the Onix is all solid state, and the Onix has a Cirrus Logic spdif receiver/buffer to improve the signal level pre-conversion.

As an onix dealer, and from past experiences with the manuals and catalogs, I am betting that is a mistake.   It sure looks from what I am seeing that there are 4 there and it looks like 2 per channel.  It would not be the first time I have seen this.
