Hmm I recall setting up my IB1's by myself ruined my back for about 6 months :(

Edit: it occurs to me that someone on this board could consider building a set of robotic speaker stands.  Remote control forward/back, left/right and rotate cw/ccw so one could sit in one place and move the speakers around to find the imaging sweet spot 8)

Hi James,

Fantastic review. You have to be my favourite speaker reviewer, both on the internet and magazines. I was searching today for some info on PMC and I am glad I came across your review.

I have not heard the IB2i speakers but was going to try to do so in a few months by driving to Los Angeles (not a fun drive). I have heard the Thiel CS3.7 speaker a few times and I have it at the top of my list for my next purchase. I have Bryston 7B-SST's.

I was wondering if you still have your Thiel CS 3.7 and if so how would you rate then relative to the PMC IB2i's. Are there any other new speakers you have heard inthe 10-20k range that you liked more than the Thiels?

About 10 years ago I purchased a pair of PSB Stratus Gold i's. Very tall and reasonably heavy. In the beginning I  was moving them around alot, from the family room to the audio room. I ended up purchasing a decent quality dolly, and spent some time encasing all the metal parts with sponge rubber hot water pipe insolation. This worked very well, the dolly "cradled" the speakers, and it was easy to pop them on and off the dolly base.

A poor mans robotic speaker stand.

How much do these IB2i's weigh? They certainly look well made and substantial!

Be well...

I am going to order the MB2i/XBD system.

james

Hi James, you may not remember me ... to do so you'd have to search your email back to 1999 :)

Glad to meet you here, just found this forum.
That's because today I ordered a pair of PMC MB2i - P, cherry, with their short stands.
I still have the 4B-ST + BP-25P to move them - no need to upgrade in the last 10 years.

The MB2i would be arriving during December.

Hey, nice to meet you again ... never imagined that would happen in a forum !  :D

Was leafing through the latest UK hifichoice and noticed that the IB2i got best loudspeaker and joint product of the year (methinks). Always nice to receive affirmation of your choices, but not really needed once you listen to the pmc/bryston combo.

The IB2i did in fact receive product of the year for Loudspeakers priced 1000GBP+. The IB2i has since it's inception remained a company favorite for it's ability to achieve the resolution of the big models but smaller stature rendering it "portable"! It is most definitely one of my favorties and alot of studio users here LA as well.

The MB2xbdi has most definitely seen the upgrade to the i-series. It won over quite fans over at RMAF too.  Yes it is a massive piece of kit, yes it was bigger than the room wanted, but amazingly it worked!

hi James
You had M2i's on order in early October. Hoped they've arrived! Before you get inundated with questions on the new ATC experience (different thread), I'd (we'd) look forward to your thoughts on the M2i experience.  Was that a more positive listening experience than the "straight" M2s that you had commented on in the fall?  Did they fair as well as the IB2is?

Or did you cancel the M2i order after all which is why we hadn't hear anything.

Look forward as usual to any comments you have, especially in view of the upcoming ATC experience (SCM 50 sure looks similar to an IB1.  Crossovers points are even the same!  Interesting coincidence?)

Sincerely,

Joe

Hi Joe,

I did not follow through with the MB2i. I may revisit it at a later date.  I only got to hear the ATC 40's

Hi James,

Well, had to wait a little for them to arrive but finally they're here in mt listening room: a nice pair of MB2i, cherry, serial number 1049 / 50.
Driven by my ten-year-old Bryston 4B-ST, my Bryston BP-25P and Meridian 508-24 as a digital front end. Bi-cabled using Van Den Hul The Wind MkII. Front end to Pre using balanced Van Den Hul The Second, and Pre to Amp using balanced Bryston cable.

I don't know what to write ... they sound amazingly well in my well damped 4 meters wide, 7 meters long, 2.7 meters high listening room. Better than any other loudspeaker I had listened to before (I have heard some ...  :) ). The 4B-ST seems to cope quite well with them, not a difficult load at all.

Just submitted my registration form to PMC, waiting for their confirmation email.

This is certainly the only pair of PMCs in my small country, but I dare to say it might well be the only pair of MB2i considering Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Uruguay.
Brazil has their own distribution ... that's not fair

I wish I have lots of measuring and reviews of them, but I don't: I don't even know their impedance curve let alone any other graph.

I'm just enjoying them lots  8)

Hi Fernando,
I saw in your post that you have the MB2i speakers in a room with similar dimensions to mine (3.5m*6.5m or 11.48*21.32 feet)

I am considering buying these speakers, but am concerned about placement.  I want to put the speakers against the long wall, so there's only about 10 feet between me and the speakers with very little room behind them.  Do you think this will be an issue?  If so, then I'll rearrange my room to make the speakers play "along" the room in stead of "across" it.

Cheers.
