Anybody have a loaner cd player or transport??
« on: 13 Oct 2009, 09:48 am »
Ok, you never know til you ask, right?? My beloved Audio Alchemy DDS1 cd transport has gone on to that great audio system in the sky, along with my AA DTI Pro jitterbox. Great equipment that will be sorely missed by me. I can't afford to buy a new digital piece right now, so I'm wondering if anyone has a decent cd player with a coaxial digital output or a transport that I can borrow til Im back up on my feet. My Monoliths will thank you...

I have a conrad johnson DV2b cd player you can borrow, but I can't get it to you until next week.  I'm tied up with the last week of marching band and a trip to KU for competition this weekend.  If I survive all this, you're welcome to play with a tube output c-j player.  Let me know if you can wait about a week.

Now if I could only make them work together.   Moved the front room around and it looks so much better, but sounds funny.  I need some help figuring this out.  One more week of marching band and then I'm free to tweak.

Adrian, I know this model isn't any CJ, but I have a Rotel CDP 955ax I could loan you, but you'd have to get it at 5:00 a.m. this Sunday when I fly out of Lambert.
Play button is screwed up but the all-important remote works fine.

Bob

Or, you could borrow the CJ and I'll trade you the Rotel for it.

Adrian, I also have a little Pioneer you could use, nothing fancy but it makes a descent transport. I am off today and tommorow so you could pick it up soon.

Hey, thanks guys!! My interest is peaked with that Conrad Johnson you have, Mark. I can certainly wait for it. Just give me a buzz at 314-276-8843 whenever you're ready. Everybody else, I really do appreciate the offers, and depending on when I'll need to return the CJ, I may be in need again. GAS rules!!!

Many thanks to Mark for bringing over his CJ cd player today. I've only had time to listen a little, and it was through the analog outputs, so that I could get the benefit of the tubes. My initial impression is...very sweet and smooth!! Yet, the highs don't seemed rolled off at all. Hopefully, as the unit warms up and everything, I'll start to get a little higher gain output. I have to crank the preamplifier volume way up past where I'm used to for this player.

What an impressive build on this cd player. It's really solid and heavy. I'm going to enjoy this very much.

Again, thanks Mark!!

I looked at my cd player specs and it only puts out 1.3 volts.  This is why your preamp volume is set so high.  Hope you're enjoying it and later I'll bring over the mhdt Havana DAC to see if you like how it sounds on the ML Monoliths.

That sounds good, Mark. Let me know when you have time. BTW, playing around with the voltage going to the Monolith panels did help a bit(using a variac). I'm curious to hear the other DAC.

Thanx,
Adrian
