Not cool.  I hope your replacements won't take too long.  Good luck with UPS and claims

You are very lucky the UPS driver marked them "damaged" and didn't leave them with you!!  You are now much more likely to get your claims check from UPS quickly.

I've had UPS "deliver" boxes not in much better shape than that, and once it's at your doorstep, the UPS claims process becomes a lot more painful

Yah he actually told me and I quote:

"Honestly I don't know why these were even loaded onto my truck. There is absolutely no way this could have happened while I drove them today so basically someone loaded them up in this shape."

WOW!!!

This is a new one on me. I've never seen a package so damaged by UPS. Be patient. I had a Mac amp delivered that looked okay from the outside but once I opened the box the damage was apparent. It took almost three months for UPS to pay for repairs to the amp. Real Bummer!!!. Everything okay now though.

I hate to be the one to say this, but it is painfully obvious that the speakers were not packed well.  Peanuts?  :o  Not good.  Also, that cardboard looks thin.  At a minimum, the seller should have double boxed them.  Even then, I'd bet you anything that the speakers would have had damage packed with peanuts.

Nonetheless, I hope UPS covers the damage.  A bad situation I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.  :(

I have to agree about the packing job - what do those speakers weigh - 50, 75, 100lbs?

No way peanuts are going to protect them over distance, in an box that thin.

That all said, hopefully UPS will compensate you, and you will soon be listening and happy.

Wow, that stinks. Were you able to actually look and see if the speakers themselves were damaged?

The only problem is that UPS may say that they were not properly packed for their weight. A claim could be difficult given the packing.
Wish you the best and hopefully you will have a new set soon enough.

I don't know to be honest with you.

The speakers were boxed and though not double boxed they had that inner lining rib box which should add some strength.

I had them insured for 3,000 dollars each so hopefully all goes well.

The shipper shipped them through a local packing place that did all the packaging.

Hopefully it all works out.

What a joke.

I think UPS should be out of business, I see pictures of this happening all the time. Why in the world do we keep paying these people to mishandle products so blantantly....

I have a preamp coming tomorrow that BigRedMachine is shipping to me; I pray to God it isn't this mishandled by UPS.

Those pictures are so horrible; its upsetting.

Hopefully this gets resolved for the OP quickly.

I had an amp damaged in shipping to the manufacturer. UPS "totaled" it and approved payment as a loss. THEN they sent the amp back to me. THEN they wanted the amp back because once they paid me it became theirs! I had already disposed of it.

So, beware of all of their dealings. Misunderstandings are easy (on their end). I eventually got paid but there was a significant fear and loathing that went on with multiple phone calls before I achieved satisfaction.

I just picked up that pair of Ebony HT3's that has been for sale in Oregon for awhile now.

They are insured for the purchase price of a new pair anyways so in a sick way I'm kinda hoping they are blown up by terrorists (aka FedEx box handlers) while in transit so I can get a custom pair.  :icon_twisted:

Grant,

I was worried when you typed this in another thread.  I am sorry to hear your speakers arrived damaged, but dude I think you got what you wished for.

peanuts and the thin wall of the box was an obvious sign they were improperly packaged.  but, since it was done by a packing service i think u are pretty set.

i hope all of this works out for you! they are some truly wonderful speakers.

Ya know its a funny thing.

Me and the wife have been having discussions all week about that. On the one hand if all goes well and UPS pays the claim which they should I'll be 100% happy forwarding that check to Jim for a custom pair.

On the other hand I was truly crushed when I looked at those boxes. I have some idea of how much work goes into these things and how much of a labor of love it is for Jim that he probably feels like his dog got ran over by a truck seeing those boxes.

Then on the other hand again when I spoke with Jim and asked him about building a matching center and sub for these he sounded disappointed that he didn't get to make a pair "just for me" so maybe that will work out in the end too.

My feelings on this are basically pretty varied to be honest but irregardless I wish I was upstairs in my media room listening to some HT3's.  :duh:

WOW!  Those are some seriously f***ed up boxes!   :? I have to agree that the packing job was totally inadequate, but very glad to hear that it was done by a packing service and not the seller himself.  Should be an open/shut case.  I am curious as to the extent of damage to the speakers themselves.  The boxes are obviously destroyed but the plastic wrapper didn't look torn or anything...  looks like the weight shifted and blew out the thin boxes.  Funny that they got so messed up, considering your previous post...  be careful what you wish for, huh.  Worst part about it is now you have to wait, for the claim to be settled, and for Jim to build a new set (or these to be returned to you)...  Good luck with a speedy resolution.

And I didn't mean to sound like an ass.  No one deserves to have their dream speakers show up on delivery day damaged.

That is not a good feeling to see your package arrive in that condition.

I am kind of shocked you didn't want to see what the speakers looked like inside.

If the driver was cool enough to let you check them out and take photos I bet he may have let you have a look.

I have a great relationship with my Fed Ex & UPS delivery drivers.

The good news is that you are dealing with one of the best professionals in the business in Jim Salk.

Try to have patience and I am sure you will have this resolved to your satisfaction.

Hang in there   :(

It will work out well in the end.

Not at all and in a way I felt like an ass for making the remark to be honest.

Hopefully it all works out in the end.
