Mr Tanner,
I am considering purchasing a BP26 to marry to my 4BSST. I am currently not using a preamp and driving the amp with the variable volume control from my Cary 308 CD player. I do not require any switching functions of a preamp since I only use the CD player. My question, respecting your opinion, will I hear definite improvement. Unfortunately I can't test drive the bp26 to form my own conclusions. I have read many different pro and con opinions.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,
Yes I believe you would hear a drastic improvement. CD Players typically have 2 volts of output whereas the BP 26 has plus/minus 30 volts of swing. This results in much greater dynamics at both the micro and macro level.
Please let me know if you go ahead and what you think.
James
Hello James,
I took your advice to try a Bryston preamp, unfortunately I couldn't stretch the budget for a BP26, so I borrowed a BP6-C from Bay Bloor Radio for a few days.
Here's my observations (speakers B&W DM640)
.the high end brightness or I call it shrill virtually disappeared
.the bass did tighten up, basically the boom effect eliminated
.much more mid range detail
.separation between speakers much more apparent
.listening volume could be reduced without losing detail, therefore reducing listing fatigue
The only down side is that I now have to wait till you build me a black unit.
Thanks Much,
Joe
