GTG invitation for australian audio circle.

CUT AND PASTE from another thread

This only occurred to me last night, in a few weeks the bathurst races are on (obviously I am in bathurst) and so it is the annual gtg (from sna basically) and guys come from all over australia and stay the weekend here (plenty of room etc)

some head off to the races during the day, others take it easy, whatever. all food is bbq (so the missus doesn't have to do anything) and of course nights is just chinwag and music and a few cold ones.

This year, in addition to my system (which is obviously permanently here!!) there will be a valve/single driver system coming up from melb, and there will also be a 'great unveiling' of aslan acoustics latest offering (two 15's, same mid as mine and an AMT tweeter, all active).

I like the idea of all that. It means if anyone wants to listen to jazz audiophile shit, or just jazz shit, or just audiophile shit,  then I don't have to be subjected to it!! haha. (If I hear Rebecca Pigeon one more time!!arrggghhh )

An invitation is open to anyone if they ever feel the urge to meet fellow stereo enthusiasts (I refuse to use the word audiophile, *they* are anathema to me!) so prefer music/stereo lovers.

(Audiophiles can stay at home and cuddle their speaker cables and power cords for all I care)

People from diyaudio have also made it out and made firm friendships, so it is in no way restricted to sna.

Just thought I'd mention it if any from this forum would also enjoy either a weekend stay (and make new friends) or even a day trip from the sydneysiders if they would prefer.

I won't be offended if there is no interest btw, just running it up the flagpole as an FYI and see if there are any salutes.

If there were interest, then happy to make a new thread to maximise the chances of aussie circle guys catching it.

Or not, I'm easy.

The purpose of a dedicated aussie circle would include not only discussion (which can occur in any subforum) and 'facts' about local conditions, but also the opportunity to meet and greet other enthusiasts?

If so, then here is one such opportunity! :D

I don't post much here, so am prob unknown (good thing for both of us heh heh) so yous takes your chances!

Nonetheless, there will be enough fellow enthusiasts here to make up for any personal shortcomings I might display (plenty of them, but will leave them till we meet)

For those who may not yet have been to gtg's, the fantastic thing about them is that even tho you may be in an opposite camp to someone else (why is audio so full of these things??) it seems to be that, unlike a forum where it often turns bad, face to face the debates do not get out of hand, indeed there is likely to be a reconciliation! Behind a keyboard you cannot see the other persons face, hear the inflection of the voice etc, no wonder they can blow up.

Face to face, well you realise that we are a lot closer than we might have previously thought.

Anyway, there it is, the *first*? aussie circle gtg invitation. For those 'local' such as syd and it's environs, feel welcome to make it a day trip only if you wish.

Those wanting to stay a night or two, tbh it is now prob getting to the stage where you would at least need to bring a sleeping bag and mattress, we do have a couple of those big tents with bedrooms type things, or as Mr C posited, if you have your own and a 'camping' trip appeals, then excellent.

A few nibbles of interest from circle members here, fingers crossed they become a reality, so a broader publication and warm invitation to the entire circle.

That's it, cheers and hope to meet you soon (I only just realised myself how soon it is :o :duh:!!! Have to tidy the place up    grrrrrr)

Well, I have no idea who Rebecca Pigeon is so I guess I might be OK :D

That's the 10th and 11th of October I believe.

Anyone in Sydney, it's not that much of a stretch for a day trip, get on the M4 at Homebush, don't get a speeding ticket over the mountains, and it still shouldn't be too much more than 2 and half hours each way.

Hey Guys, this sounds like fun, but surely you would have to be certifiable to go near Bathurst on the Bathurst W/E (assuming you were not there for the races of course!)?

Can't do multiple quotes??

Wow, that's excellent news! So let me decipher your message 'freudian' style.."my wife says it's ok so I will be there"..hmm, nice pair of pants you wear around the house son!!

Jokes aside, is that one (I) or two (I and wife..'we' are self contained') or more (wife and I and unstated number of kids)..in any case you are self contained so bring as many as you want! (still, let me know numbers so we make sure we get enough supplies)

A few days early, be glad to have you, no worries. That is not a silly idea, I can imagine the traffic could be heavy if the time was not picked correctly. Oh, and I suggest an eye be kept on the speedo, I don't know why but I have a hunch that there could be a few cops around checking on that sort of thing.

John, as you don't know who TF Rebecca Pigeon is, I have just put your name on a label in the sweetspot. It is yours, a gift to a soul mate! Amen brother

Are you in? Don't forget to pick up your mate in yetholme..I presume he is into audio if you are building a sub together?

Todd, a lot of people suggest you'd be certifiable to be in bathurst...at any time.

Have not been involved in the planning thread on sna, but I think the idea is we all chip in fifty bucks to cover the half a cow and salad etc, we can adjust up or down as we go.

Excise duty is a min six pack of XXXX bitter, may as well give that to the lord of the manor?? haha

Oh, and you have to hone your 500 skills if you have any, afaik there is a comp on over the weekend...we have a few serious players I think.

Forgot to mention that there is a lucky door prize of a valve amp, as I say I have not been involved in the planning so I am assuming it applies to all, not just sna members.

Hey!, just remembered,  I am the LORD OF THE MANOR, is my word not holy writ? If so, then it IS so, it is now available to all.

(I'll check with the boss tho..don't tell anyone ok?)

Lucky door prize, pfft. I want to make it the winner of the best fart of the weekend, the missus reckons that's a bit crude tho.

Will have a word re the dipoles, dunno if that is still bring-able, and let you know. It is a good idea, will check on logistics etc this end ok?

OK then. well behaved you assure me, as you say they'd better be.

And the kids?

You need some grass to setup. Yeah, I am pretty open minded, but I prefer beer.

Oh dear, the sick corny jokes have started already, but I've emptied me locker waaay to early. Be up all night writing a new routine. (It won't be any wittier unfortunately).

What is a GTG and an SNA?

get together, and stereo net australia. It is a australian based audio forum, and for the most part a lot of the members have gotten to know each other well, and have formed fast friendships, due to the many gtg's!

The majority of those coming are from sna, but by no means exclusively.

So what would a single guy with his own camping gear need to know/ bring to attend and how would he get this info?

Hi Todd.

I guess he'd get the info by asking in the thread!!

Good call on the camping gear, does that include tent?? If not, that's fine cause we have arranged a couple of those three bedroom thingys with living room, you know what I mean!!

Still, you'd need whatever would make you comfortable in that setup!! At the very minimum, if you have a sleeping bag and pillow, well I'm sure if needs be we can whip around and get a mattress...oh, and it would help if you could bring a towel etc.

Yeah, for sure, a fine excuse to get out of sydney!

So what is the entry fee? Mainly new music, so make sure you bring it ok? (I get first dibs on it if I like it, if I don't like it you'll know! oops, not very nice host...ok I will quietly leave the room, ahh that's better)

If you're in I will send you the data in a pm, so will keep an eye on the thread.

Mr Content has promised he and his wife will be on good behaviour...still waiting for word on the kids! :D

And he has reneged on the ob's...slacker!!

Wow, looks like a good turn out, lot's of new audio friends to be made by all.

Once I am sure you will come, will let the 'butcher' know how many sheep to slaughter, so let me know yeah? (would be a running tally in the sna thread, that's all)
