BNC vs all other
« on: 14 Sep 2009, 11:43 am »
Well, with the Transporter I have the ability to run a BNC digital cable to the BDA-1.

I've done some cursory searches on the net an the topic and I've found some snippets as to why 'theoretiaclly' BNC may be better (true 75 ohm, etc).

Anybody here running BNC to the BDA-1 for their main music source over RCA/XLR because they find it better? My gut tells me it's likely a toss-up....but just for the hell of it I figured I'd ask.

Hi,

The point of the Transporter is that is has its own DAC's

If you are going Transporter to BDA1 then it might be better to get a Duet.......

Or go balanced Analogue out of the transporter to your pre.

I would think it worth doin A/B tests yourself on those options.

Cant help with the BNC Q's.

I have all three (3): a Squeezebox 3, a Duet and  a Transporter

The Transporter may find its way into my living room system...but for now I'll keep it in my main system. At this point the Transporter sounds like it has a hair improvement up on the Duet, so it'll stay for a while. The Duet doesn't support 24/48 or 24/96 files...etc.

Besides, the SP 1.7 doesn't have XLR analogue in.....the new preamp I'm getting will have it, maybe I'll try the Transporter DAC then with XLR outs.

Also, I may get a unit like the Pace Car 2 to run the word clock on the Transporter.....lots to toy with.

Actually, for me the selling point of the Transporter was the ability to play 24/48 , 24/96 files in FLAC, etc, plus the fact that it has its own regulated linear power supplies. I looked at getting the Channel Islands audio power supply upgrade for the Duet, but would have been about $500 CAD by the time it hit my doorstep. So, for the price I got an 'as new' Transporter for...it was a no-brainer.

If I had to pay the $2,500 to $2,800 tax-in prices for a brand nw one, I wouldn't have bought the Transporter.
