What about some Live performance ?

Hello all,

For every true audiophile out there, who knows what a true well delivered live performance can inflict, here is a recommended artist (Portuguese of course) wich is today the best Fado singer in the world : Mariza.

She will be performing 3 shows in Australia next October. I vigorously encourage anyone to go and see her, it is a wonderful concert... full of Life...Force  aa aa

Felipe,

How very interesting!!

I have been a Fado fan ever since I heard Mariza on the radio about a year ago, and I carry a CD of hers around in my car for long trips.  Absolutely spellbinding voice, haunting, almost surreal, incredibly emotional.  Although I understand not a word, I absolutely adore it......

Hmmm.  Must persuade Sri to come along........

Live concerts are some of the greatest things, often they put things in perpective, and or make you realize just how good "your" system is or isnt. The goal is and always should be trying to bring the organic qualities of a snapshot of an event into the living room with this Audio stuff, Hugh, convince Sri and go!!,  aa...

Filipe, excellent performer - I looked at this to bring me up to speed as I haven't heard much of such music before.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OrhFpqCzUE

I think the key is the well delivered bit and she certainly appears excellent.  Every time I see the MSO (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) live, I marvel that there are minimal electronics involved and I can go home to my system and enjoy close to equivalent, life like sound and volume.

In some degree of contrast however, I went to see Ross Wilson live just the other night.  Brilliant rock/modern song writer performer and a truly excellent live performance without a missed beat.  However, my wife and I both needed earplugs to cope.  Next day, put on one of his well recorded CDs and it was bliss.  Apart from the failure to produce authentic pain and chair bounce (Tut tut Hugh - where has all that real life venue added distortion gone?), the Aspens did a pretty good job of making him seem real and present - so I would have to say in my opinion, a better than live performance.  8)

Hi all,

Yes, i must emphasize how good this singer sounds live. It is simply the best i have heard yet, and i believe others should try to hear this out too. Minimal electronics is one factor to take in account, it all comes down to her beautiful voice and the marvelous sound of the accompanying guitars. I also think that this kind of less complex music has very little room/venue interaction, at least not in the same degree as a rock/pop concert, leading to a seamless presentation and performance and lack of added distortion.

Hugh, it is truly a pity that you cannot understand the words, sometimes it is what makes you cry. It is not rare to see her (Mariza) cry on live performances due to emotions generated between the audience and herself and of course interpretation of the lyrics has a lot to do with it.
She even has a Live DVD concert, recorded in Lisbon with the its Symphony, where this happens in the very last song. It is, for me, the benchmark of a well delivered performance. Simply stunning, emotional, a must see. It is the same Concert as posted by LM above ... here is the link to THAT song : "Gente da minha Terra", which translates to "Oh people of my homeland".

I hope you can attend the concert. I have bought my tickets to her next appearance here in Porto, 3 weeks after the Australia tour, on October 30th. A marvelous way to spend my birthday !! :green:

Cheers,
Filipe

For those in NZ that not able to attend the Live performance. You can find her CD 'terra' in "The Warehouse". Label saying $22.99 but is only $9.99 at the counter. There a least 2 left in the Petone shop.
Pretty good deal.... :green:

Yes, Mariza rocks!
Boston, 7th November- I'll be there  :thumb:
I once had a 24 hour layover in Lisbon. Loved the food, the people, the cerveja

Beautiful city all hills and alleyways, the harbor and even a big bridge like San Francisco, only even more charming...
