I've been using my computer for audio since 1989. I'm probably one of the few that has never owned a Walkman, boom box, receiver, or MP3 player. Of course computer audio at the beginning sounded terrible to what we have today. I now have an X-Fi Elite soundcard with upgraded opamps going directly to my amplifier. I use J. River Media Center 14 for playback and management of my audio collection. I've had my HTPC for four years now with no problems (the X-Fi has been in it for 3 years).
