Bryston future products

I've never been a fan of a light show even though the McIntosh meters are cool. I think a light for the source and volume knobs would be fine by me, but it won't be the reason why i buy or not buy gear. I've always thought it would be cool to have a dB meter displayed on the remote but I guess i can always duct tape a radio shack version to it.

one reason why i bought Bryston gear was the nonexistence of "meters" on the front of their amps.

I'm pretty sure at least one house has been robbed where the thief walked by about $10k worth of stuff like Bryston to steal a $500 TV and a Sony receiver.

It was like when my farther's car repair shop got robbed - they used a $20k tool that was in the office to break into the desk where my father had $20. Then they moved a box full of Mercedes and BMW keys out of the way to get to a Volvo key that went to a 25 year old beat up wagon.

In all, they made it out with a $500 at best car, $20 in cash, a screw driver and a pair of pliers.

A couple of rocket surgeons.

Interesting point,

An individual at work had his car's side window smashed out so the thief could steal some loose change out of his cup holder.

There was no real damage to anything. Nothing that cost more than a few bucks anyway. Another great part I just remembered - the car was found abandoned and broken down about 10 blocks away. Maybe next time they'll steal a car that's already been repaired!

Not that break ins are common. There's been 2 in 30+ years. The first one wasn't much more profitable.

Mhhh.... The other day I was looking at NAD's C 565BEE CD player...... not that I like too much the NAD sound, I was just reading the info on NAD's webpage to check what they're up to.... an SLAAAAM they are geniuses - they added an optical digital input to it so you can use it as a DAC too.....

So I was thinking... what about having such input on the BCD-1.... it would add tremendous value as now it could double as a DAC for your computer stored files....

And no I don't think it would cannibalize the sales of the standalone DAC, I don't believe many people buy BOTH the Bryston DAC and the CD player anyway....

In an ‘all in one’ CD Player the big advantage is that you know exactly what digital Bit-Stream is coming off the Drive. Knowing this you can precisely synchronize the ‘DRIVE’ to the ‘DAC’ through a ‘MASTER CLOCK’. This reduces the JITTER to extremely low levels. Also the closer the DAC is to the CLOCK the better.

With an outboard DAC you do not know what digital Bit-Stream you’re dealing with so you have to ‘RECLOCK’ and ‘RESAMPLE’ the digital input to allow the DAC to ‘Clock’ to the incoming signal. Again you’re trying to reduce Jitter to a very low level.

If we were to have a Digital Input on the Bryston CD Player we would have to use different circuitry to allow for the reclocking and resampling of the incoming bit-stream.

Hi - should have the prototype home this weekend for a listening session. You can see your library with an itouch or iphone on the network or with a dedicated router or with your web-browser through the ethernet connection.

Hope to have product in a couple of months if all goes well sonically.

Is there any chance that Bryston will make a top grade headphone amplifier at some point? There is a big number of headphone audiophiles out there who will really benefit from Bryston's expertise in amplifier design.

Hi James,

As you have stated that Bryston's philosophy is to concentrate on the audio side and stay clear at video side of things at this time.

With this in mind, would Bryston consider the ability to decode DSD (Super Audio), HDCD, DVD-Audio, or other higher resolution digital audio signals directily in its new product offerings - SP3 or the digital server?

With Bryston track record, this would be amazing to hear the audio reproduction possible. The present DAC's used in Bryston products are capable, so this upgrade would not be too difficult - I think...

I am amazed that there are so many "headphonephiles" out there who are passionate about headphones.

Perhaps, just perhaps, in the distant future, we headphone lovers have the good pleasure of a Bryston headphone amplifier. That would really be nice!!!

The head-fi guys would probably love a Bryston headphone amp/DAC combo. Kind of like the one Vinnie at Red Wine did.

I'd imagine it wouldn't be economically feasable for Bryston though. The headphone market has to be a good bit smaller than the home audio market. A guy like Vinnie could probably benefit from making 100 - 200 units. Bryston probably wouldn't fare so well.
