Yes, you will undoubtedly go insane unless you practice the Salk Signature Sound 12 step program that has helped so many before you. Please, I hope that I do not offend anyone. In truth, 12 step programs have saved many lives.Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless over our inferior audio - that our listening experience had become unsatisfying and fatiguing;Step 2 - We came to believe that a team composed of a speaker designer and builder, a TL design consultant, a cabinet/crossover designer, and one of the greatest crossover designers of our time could restore us to high fidelity;Step 3 - We made a decision to turn our audio needs over to the care of Jim and Dennis;Step 4 - We made an inventory of our needs to have the best components, listen to the best music, or some combination therein;Step 5 - We admitted to Jim, to Dennis, to ourselves and to our fellow forum members, but never to our wives, the exact nature of our insecurities;Step 6 - We are entirely ready to have Jim, with the help of Frank Van Alstine, in extreme cases, remove all poorly sounding midrange and solid state artifacts;Step 7 - We humbly asked GIK or ReadyTraps to give us free advice to remove slap echo, reverberations, cancellations, and suckout and then we went and bought stuff for a few bucks cheaper somewhere else;Step 8 - We made a list of all persons we had harmed, including bpape, Eathan, et al, (see above) and became willing to make amends to them by finally buying their stuff, and without even asking for a discount;Step 9 - We made direct amends to people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others, by telling those people that we secretly scoffed because of their stupid audio choices and that we wanted to feel that they were dumber than us; Step 10 - We continued to admitted our wrongs, but only to ourselves and each other, such as the wrong we committed when we tried to tell someone that we could really hear a difference when that little bowl from the far east was placed in the room, snickering to ourselves;Step 11 - We sought through careful listening and comparison to improve our conscious connection with the music as a form of personal growth and self-actualization; andStep 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message, that the sound is "better than being there," to other prospective purchasers, and to prevent, whenever possible, friends from purchasing audio equipment from Big Box stores, unscrupulous dealers, wonder wire salesman, snake oil salesman, and anyone that cryoprotects, cryopreserves, cryoenhances, or otherwise cryos anything. Please feel free to modify these in any way.
Talked to Jim this evening. He's going to try to match the color to a photo of an armoire in my living room that I can't use (evil, giant TV is 3x too wide). But, I liked the color that it's cherry had been stained. Now for the long wait. Wonder if I'll go completely insane? P.S. I have an OPPO BDP-83 that should arrive tomorrow. So, here's a question for all of you SACD fans. Which SACDs have great 2-channel mixes (noticebly better than the RedBook CD version)? Looking around the Web, I notice lots of people enjoying Brothers in Arms, Dark Side of the Moon, Honky Chateau, and Miles Davis: Kind of Blue, just to name a few albums I know well, but reading reviews on Amazon or even sa-cd.net hasn't been all that insightful (they mostly focus on multi-channel), so any personal experience with SACDs making your Salks sound good will be appreciated.-Kevin
mathgeek97 & mchuckp - congrats on your new speakers!Oneinthepipe - The 12 steps are great. However, I remind you that this is high-end audio, where overkill is never enough. We may need to add just a few more steps. I have two modest suggestions:13. Practice photographing FedEx trucks when ever you see them. In the excitement of the moment on delivery day, you may forget to photograph the actual delivery truck, and you can always post one of your practice shots. No one will ever notice .14. Acquire a hat with a sturdy chinstrap. When you first listen to your new speakers, your jaw will need the extra support. When trying to impress your wife or friends with you superior taste and wisdom, looking like a slack-jawed fool detracts from the overall effect. Some people have found that attaching a droolcup to the chinstrap is also useful. If any others have useful advice, please add them?
Maybe we should start a new thread entitled "How do you know that you are addicted to Salk Speakers?"

Buy your wife something nice before planting the seed about ideal speaker placement so you don't get chased around the house with a frying pan when she comes home from work to find them pulled 18" off the wall. This is going to be a TOUGH one for me.
^ haha, that's awesome. It sounds like something I'd do to my buds. Good one!So when is the expected arrival date of both your speakers?
