Sony vintage CDP-200
« on: 7 Jun 2009, 10:14 pm »
I picked up a Sony CDP-200 yesterday and, after cleaning, cranked it up and it works wonderfully. If anyone out there has or has had one of these I would love to hear your experience with it. Thanks!

I never had a CDP-200, sorry!  But I had a CPD-60 in 1985 which was much worse than the CPD-200, real bad sound, 14bits definition, black face, slim line wonderful looks(even today), expensive cost me 650 dollars.  Transport never fail, first class knobs however.
Regards.

I picked up one of those earlier this summer. I did the necessary cleaning inside and out and checked it out. Nice solid mechanics, decent sound but not quite as warm as my Nakamichi or NAD or Kyocera which are still in the chain but this Sony is ready to take the place of any of those in a minute!

It's got digital out — right? Get over to DIY Paradise and look at Monica II DAC. Very affordable. Dead simple to box up and switch. I built a linear power supply for mine, but you can go for a wall wart or a strapped pair of 12 VDC batteries. This Sony will be a great deck, and the power supply section should be an easy thing to recap with Elna Stargets or some such. I'm using an old Yamaha CDX, but a Sony 222ES sits waiting in case the former melts down or goes off line.
