Although ... Jack has been trying to get me to commission Albert to make me a VR-5 High Sensitivity model. I think he just wants my DB-99s.

He knows me too well  aa aa aa

Thanks Jack and Es347 for the compliments.

I left out a few things - the UX-1pi has the Original UX-1 transport in it, now apparently only found in the P-01. (and yes, there is a difference...)

Also, Alex is cooking up a new DAC for me of his own design with 20 32-bit AKM dacs, double Class-A tubed output stage, etc., etc., etc.  Its apparently been delayed a bit by even newer technology and he has promised me a "surprise" - maybe it will also make toast?  coffee?  Alex has always managed to exceed my expectations - I'm pretty sure this time will be no different.  I've been waiting quite a while for this piece, so am hopeful it will be finished soon.  It should also push my 7s to new heights.....

Fplanner...your digital front end is something to behold.  I didn't realize the the Esoteric brand is actually Teac's "lexus".  Quite pricey but no doubt something very special.  I have the McIntosh MCD500 cd/sacd player.  Not having compared it to a lot that's out there, it seems to be as good as all the MAC crazies on AK profess it to be.  It has taken my old redbook collection to a different level for sure.  But when I see someone playing with transports and separate DACs, I start getting all itchy :duh: The MCD500 will have to be my calamine lotion

With all the great systems out there I think the next thing we need to do is move to the same town. We could call it Von town. That way we could check out the sounds we are reading about. I had VR4jr's before and they were a joy to listen to as well. I find that the VS speakers all have the ability to involve me in the music. As you go up the line you just get more.

Fplanner mabe your new dac will make the burgers now?

Jack the Carissa is based on the 845 tube.

  Enjoy, Bob

You guys have some fantastic systems. I have a small room (15' x 11' 5") so my setup is more modest but still very musical with my VSA speakers matching the room size perfectly both in size and overall sound.

Speakers: VR2's with extensive modifications
Pre-amp: Van Alstine Insight+ EC
Amp: Van Alstine Insight 440
DAC: Van Alstine Insight+ DAC
CD Source: computer based wav files streamed to Windows Vista 64 bit computer -->Foobar v0.9.6.7 -->USB -->HagUSB -->Insight+ DAC
Turntable: Harman Kardon T55C with power supply mod
Cartridge: Goldring 1042
Phono pre-amp: Hagerman Cornet2 with Sonicap, Mundorf SIO, & Russian FT-3 cap upgrades
Tuner: Sony XDR-F1HD
Wires: Kimber 4VS and monoprice 12 guage bi-wired, Straightwire Encore interconnects, Blue Jeans Cable digital cable

The Van Alstine equipment is a great affordable match for the VR2's. Highly recommended.
I recently picked up a KingRex pre-amp for my wood shop system and just had to try it out on the VR2's, even though it is a terrific minimalist pre-amp for the price the Insight+ is much more refined.

My VSAs are actually Clearfield Continentals that were sold by Counterpoint when Albert worked for them.

Behind them is as follows.

Counterpoint NPS-400 or Odyssey Stratos (I also swap Dynaudio 82s in and out)

VAC CLA-1 MKII Pre amp

Rotel 1072 CDP

Onkyo Integra TA-207 Cassette deck (what is that?)

Synergistic Research Kaleidoscope II ICs

Synergistic Research Signature Speaker cables

Panamax 1000 Power center

Wow, you guys have some pretty amazing equipment. Here is my humble setup and hoping to upgrade if and when we move to a bigger home (and if my wife lets me live in the new home of course  )

VSA Unifield 3 speakers
Cambridge Audio 840C CD Player
Primaluna Dialogue Two integrated amp
VSA biwire speaker cables and VSA signature interconnects.
PS Audio Quintet power center.

The above setup is also part of home theater (no surrounds for now due to space constraints):
Pioneer Kuro 60" Plasma
PS3
Oppo BDP 83 BluRay Player
Kimber Hero interconnects and Ethereal HDMI cables

Hey Runner, that Visiun center is a freak of nature. In the one and only system I've installed with one, it throws the image smack into the center of the screen. That center is a good 40" ABOVE it. I'd never seen anything like it before or since.

Aren't ya itchin for SRs to match them? I mean the Visiun really is an SR on its side.  aa

every day I think about the SRs. keeping my eye on AGon for a pair maybe when thed MKIII come out I'll find a nice pair of MKIIs. Just bought a Anthem Statement D2V so funds just not there.

You're right about the Visiun, I've had Aerial 9s with the 5CC and recently had the ML Stage because the LCR15 didn't cut it. When the Visiun came out I was all over it.

Hi guys,

Last week I had the opertunity to set up a realy nice system.

Speakers: VSA Unifield III
Amplifiers: KR Kronzilla DXL tube amp at 150 wpc rms, 1000 watt peak!
CD-player: EERA Tentation
Wire: VSA Masterbuilt speaker cable and Harmonic Technology Photonlink and Magic Power cable
Audio Furniture: Solid Tech Radius

The result was simply,...real music.
Never heard the Unifield III act so very natural.
These Kronzilla's are so powerful, fast and dynamic you would believe the music-instruments are in the room in front of you.

Wonder what they sound like on suff like the VR 9 SE. I can imagine.
