OverDrive with 24/192 support via USB ?
« on: 29 May 2009, 04:42 pm »
Hi Steve,

Can the OverDrive support 24/192 play back from Players such as JRiver that can upsample to 24/192 via USB interface ?   If not, is there a way to upgrade the OverDrive to support this ?

Thanks.

Currently, the only devices that will support this are:

1) Fireface400 - firewire - I recommend using Pace-Car with it and drive I2S to the Overdrive

2) Lynx AES16, Lynx22 - again, I recommend using the Pace-Car with these.

I have in my plans a USB interface that will support 24/192. It requires 2 clocks, so it may not fit in the Overdrive.  The USB module and the clock module would have to be replaced.  I am evaluating new interfaces now, to determine the best S/W USB solution.  So far, I'm having trouble with even 24/96 and Mac.  The latencies are too high.  It may be that USB will work for 192, but it may require fast-access disk - SATA and SS memory for the OS.

First, I have to outsource board assembly of the Overdrive and get the less expensive version going, as well as outsourcing the assembly of the Pace-Car.  Then I must develop battery supplies for the Overdrive, Pace-Car and Off-Ramp.

After all of this, I will have time to do the 192 USB interface work.

Thanks Steve !   Hope you will include an upgrade path for the current OverDrive to 24/192 via USB in the future..

I just got back from RMAF, so I'm buried building Pace-Cars right now.  I hope to get back to my Overdrive LI battery supply design soon.  The 192 interface is 2010.
