Hey Pete, can you give a ball park figure of the total cost; DAC+tube and fuse+Wayne mods? Or pm me? ThanksIsn't this DAC already high res? thanks again
I ordered some! I even registered here just to respond to your shout-out to the lurkers I paid the deposit on the evening of March 1st, so the 2nd should probably be counted as the official enqueueing day.
Just picked up my HT2-TL's and HTC2 today. It was well worth the 9 hour drive to see Jim's facility and meet everyone that makes the speakers. All of them are extremely hospitable. Only been listening for about an hour but so far I love what I'm hearing. Pure audio bliss! Thanks to Jim, his wife and the entire Salk team for making an absolutely stunning set of speakers.
For those keeping track, my speakers arrived today! Unfortunately, after waiting for them to arrive I had to leave them in their boxes and come in to work. I will post impressions and pictures after I have set them up and had some time to listen to them.
I picked up my songtowers and song center yesterday after ordering them on march 7. I live about 20 minutes from the production facility so I was able to pick them up and save on shipping. I didn't expect to meet Jim and everyone at the site, get a tour and a look at some new projects they were working on but the experience was wonderful. Jim is definitly a tinkerer and perfectionist and loves what he's doing. Everyone was really nice and after chatting a bit I packed up and went home to set up.I replaced a pair of B&W 601 S3s and a LCR60 S3 with the Salks and they started to look quite shabby on the floor but I tried to keep my expectations low for the sound (I never demoed the salks). After running the setup (yamaha rx-v663) and messing around a bit I started to crank it up a bit with my fav 'demo song' the Outkast Speakerboxxx intro song.. LOL I couldn't help but laugh it sounded so good. I spent much of the night just listening to some of my favorite cd's..I'm not much of an audiophile but do appreciate quality and customer service and I am extremely happy with my Songtowers.
Another addition to the waiting on Salk's list! I’ve been lurking around here since late April when I was graciously invited to listen to Terry’s (TJHUB) HT2-TLs and Brandon’s (Nuance) ST RTs. Wish I had the funds for the HT2-TLs but alas no …..so on Thursday I ordered a pair of STs and SongCenter with the RAAL upgrade in straight mahogany. I sure hope the wait passes quickly!Jay
After selling my ST and SC, and right away placing the order for HT2-TL and HT2C, its back to start of the line for me yet again. While not sure about what to do during the period, I certainly know what NOT to do - listen to music on other speakers! Plain and simple, they are just a torture once you have tasted the Salks! Sounds so bland, lifeless and unmusical And not just music, even regular dialogue that would primarily use the center feels like someone has thrown - no, not a veil - a blanket on them. This wait is gonna be a long one...
Thanks TJHUB and Nuance! I have been trying out some room treatments and also playing with REW and sub eq, so they will be good to go by the time the HT2-TL's arrive.
Cool. Will you be running a house curve with the subwoofer, or just trying to EQ flat or based on the 24dB/Octave slope?
Have gotten as far to get settings for the flat one - still need to upload it to DSP1124P and see how that goes, then perhaps the house curves. Haven't explored the house curves at all yet - what are the common ones used? I guess REW forums will have more info too.. But still waiting for GIK tri-traps to be delivered so don't have to redo the whole thing again. Only setup 3 242-equivalent panels (from another site - acoustimac) so far and they were a big help in reducing reflections in my huge room, which was my first objective.
Good call on the room treatments. I am not sure what curve everyone uses (I didn't like the ones I tried). I ended up getting one from TJHUB (here on the forums) and the others from HT Shack. They are just text documents you can load in REW that will apply the curve. I'd recommend trying the standard 24dB/octave curve that REW defaults to first, then try it flat.
