Paradigm S6v2. I made the misfortune of hearing the ht4s at a GTG or I would be happy where I am at right now.

If this is your kind of misfortune - I'm moving into your neighborhood and I'm going to start hanging around with you!

Was your misfortune visited upon you in Oregon, by chance?

Yes, Lincoln City. Were you there? Before that I had never heard a kick drum that sounded real.

Oh yeah, I was there.  In fact, I'm still eating the lunch leftovers...  Hearing the SS's that weekend ruined me for all other speakers.  And I'm still mad at Jim and Dennis for that.

So when the beasts arrive at your place, can I come over for a visit?  I'll bring the sandwiches.

Deal, although you might be spoiled after being in average joes room.

Joe has a decent room, acoustically speaking.  But those SS's will shine anywhere...including my dingy excuse for a listening environment.

Placed my order on 5-28-2010 for 5 bamboo Song Series. 2 rear-ported Song Towers for the front, 2 front-ported Song Towers for the rear and 1 front-ported Song Center. I went with dome tweets for wider dispersion and cost.

Now I am shopping for subs, AVR, amps, pre-amps, etc. They are tentatively expected in mid July. Looking at Rythmik Audio, Parasound, Denon, Onkyo, maybe Butler Audio, and Logitech Squeezeox to round out the system.

Trey,

Congrats on your SongTower order.  I thought about Bamboo but decided to have Jim match some furniture instead.

I have 2 F15HP Rythmik subs in a fairly large room just waiting to meet my Songtowers when they arrive (it should be verrrrrry soon now).  I'm no expert but so far I like the subs a lot.  I even sometimes wonder if I really need two, but I figure I can always sell one if it truly is not needed.

I got a Logitech Squeezebox a couple of months ago and think it is just about the coolest gadget around.  However, I did have to go through a learning curve on how to use it and I still don't have the best method for organizing my ripped CD files.

I am almost embarrassed to say that I use a Yamaha RX-V863 to run my system, but I need Home Theater, and I just don't have the money to spend on some nicer companents.  Even though it might not get the most out of the SongTowers, I'm sure it will sound good to my ears.

Trey -

As mentioned before, welcome to the family buddy!  I can't wait to see your speakers!  Oh, and you've got a PM. ;)

sirbrine,

The Parasound 2100 preamp is a great way to integrate a HT system with a 2-channel setup.  The preamp sells new for $599 and can be had for much less used; snagged mine for $400.  The 2100 has a HT bypass option, so when its off or switched to "bypass mode" the signal gets passed right through to the HT receiver unmolested.  The preamp also has a subwoofer output - bonus!

When you've got some spare cash lying around, pick up a 2100 preamp and a cheap, used amplifier.  If feel the differences aren't worth it, sell them for what you paid and enjoy the Yamaha, knowing you've got the best sound for the money you were willing to spend.

If you're looking at Parasound, check out the used listings at Audiogon. This past week or so there's been a lot of selection and you may just come away with a deal.

Bob,

You can add me to your list. I ordered my SongTowers (dome) and SongCenter in Curly Cherry on 6/7/10 and they arrived on 7/21/10. I could not be happier with the sound and the craftsmanship of the cabinents is outstanding.

Done!

Bob,

Thanks and I am glad you linked my initial impressions as well :). Nice job as I'm sure this thread will be very helpful to prespective Salk speaker owners. Of course it will be helpful to present Salk owners as well.

I revised the title of this thread to help new folks that are researching Salk speakers.

I placed my order on May 24, 2010 for a pair of SoundScape 10's in Ziricote, with the Sonicap Platinum bypass caps upgrade. Might get them dyed slightly black to give them a more subtle look, but Jim is sending me some pictures of them without the dye so I can choose.

Jim said sometime in August they should be ready for action, so here's hoping to them shipping late August!

Have since bought my entire system components and I'm just waiting for the speakers. Only thing that is still coming in the mail is my BlackCat Veloce cable to go between my Squeezebox Touch and W4S DAC-2. Might also order some more room treatments from GIK, possibly their new QRD panels for diffusion.

I ordered my SS10s one day later, on May 25th.  I went for the Cocobolo in piano gloss, just like Jim's personal pair.  I ordered the Sonicap upgrade also.  When I checked at the beginning of July, the bass units were ready for finishing and Jim was waiting for the upper modules.  Hopefully we'll all see our babies soon!

Woah, yeah, might be late August or a little after since there seems to be quite a bit of SoundScape orders. This is what Jim told me on August 2nd...

"The mold for the top sections is now complete and we are starting to get molded tops.  We still have a little tweaking to do in the process, but they are now in production (finally)."

Exciting times!
