Well, this is a first.  The FedEx driver just called to make sure someone would be at home today to sign for the speaker delivery.  He said he'd be here before Noon!

Chris

Whew!  You had a long wait.  :green:

And it came to pass...

... that the Salks came home on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 9:45 CST in the morning!   :D

I haven't seen the birth certificate yet...client left a message saying they need something this morning.  So, the Salks sit while I work a bit.  This is torture!

In the picture below, you can see that the speakers have more of a cardboard look than what Jim had sent earlier.

ctouhey - Congrats! Hopefully the sweet anticipation has been replaced by enjoyment.

My place looks like a bomb was set off - I'm trying to get the rack and tv stand finished before the speakers get here. We'll see how that goes - the metal work is finished and now comes the hard part (for me - I'm not a woodworker) of making the shelves. It would probably be a lot easier if I wasn't so picky about how I wanted it to look.

Couple of teaser pics...

Having the right tools helps  :green:

Long story, but I only got the speakers unpacked and set up late Friday and then left early Saturday morning to go out of town.  I had a short time Friday night and about an hour last night to listen.  The sound is incredible and much better than anything I've owned in the past.  Heck, it's better than anything I've heard so far.

I unpacked the center first and sent a couple pictures to my wife at the office last Friday, but haven't had a chance to shoot anything else.  I'll take pictures soon as you've got to see what Jim has produced -simply amazing.  Attached are the pics I sent Julie (wine bottle for scale reference).  You don't see a lot of HTC shots.  This is burled walnut with an American Walnut frame.

ctouhey,

That veneer and frame is amazing.  You're one lucky man!

Edit: Now I see the difference between your HT3's and the others.  Very nice touch.   :thumb:

Some assembly required  :green: No shelves yet - the amp is just there for a test fit. I'm wondering if I can contract Jim to stain the wood part of the shelves to match my speakers.

And a matching TV stand

I was originally going to make a triple wide TV stand, but I figured out I couldn't get all the equipment in there (including the center channel), so I decided on a shorter TV stand and a full size audio rack. The best laid plans...

I keep checking my email to see if there is a note from Jim saying "They're done!"  :D

Of course you can.

Looks good, polarbare!  I wish I had skills like that.  We're using some old carts at the moment to set things on.

Jim worked out a beautiful media cabinet design that matched my new HT3s, but we had to delay the actual build just as the design was finalized.  I look forward to adding that in the future.

Of course you can.

Just got the wood today - 1/2" cherry veneer plywood and 8-9 board feet solid cherry for the edging. I'll give you a buzz to see about how we're going to do this after I finish the wood part of the shelves (shipping might be painful  :o). I still have to polish the edges of the granite tile for the top half of each shelf (the tile will be affixed to the wood part after staining).

ctouhey and Nuance - this kind of metal work is easy if you have the tools. I'm nervous about making the wood part of the shelves - most of my projects fall along the line of "good enuf for government work"... Luckily, my dad knows a cabinet maker that's going to help me with it and let me use his shop  :green:

Return the wood and have Jim do the shelves and then you attatch the granite when he sends them to you

Kind of comitted now - had to do a couple of carry cuts to get it home. Anyway, I might as well learn something about woodworking.

Sounds fun to me.  I've always wanted to jump right in and learn myself.  Unfortunately the closest I ever got was cutting wood on a table saw to use for my DIY subwoofers.  I commend your initiative to give it a whirl yourself.

Next vehicle big SUV

I have a (small) truck, but the longest piece was 12 ft before being cut and I didn't want it dangling :green: I considered asking Jim about doing the shelves, but then I figured he was pretty busy building speakers, and I didn't feel right asking him to make shelves as well.

Jim just gave me the word (and a picture); my HT2-TLs and matching Rhythmik 15" are ready to roll!!

To me the cherry-dyed bamboo looks gorgeous and understated, if just a bit lighter than the 'source', atleast in this picture.  It's hard to tell, it looks like it was taken in some strong light.

Jim suggested I ship them on a palette since the sub comes in at a whopping 152lbs!
