Isn't taking too long, is it?   That seems pretty quick (for me, anyway, but they aren't my speakers).

Looking forward to your impressions when you receive your speakers (and some PHOTOS).

Jim actually sent that last week.  I looked at the start of this thread and averaged the build time of HT2-TLs, and mine seem to be on track, if not a little ahead of the normal pace (still have to factor in ship time and holidays).

In the past month or so I switched out my amp and preamp to AVA ultra.  These made a HUGE difference, so the wait hasn't been all that painful.

Coke - What type of veneer did you go with?

While I'm waiting for Jim to build the HT3s and HTC, work is really stacking up around here.  Of course, some stacks are better than others...

A pair of Martin Logan Descent i subwoofers should be here next week.  After that, I'm just waiting on Jim (and not minding the wait!).

On a different note, if you're waiting for your new Salks to come, go get yourself a 1/2" socket wrench if you don't have one. I had to run out to the hardware store at 7 at night to buy one before they closed. Jim uses 1/2" bolts on the plinths, and they are counter sunk into the bottom, so a regular wrench wont let you fully tighten them. Most folks have a set of socket wrenches, but if you're like me and lost track of yours in a move then you'll want to be prepared!

Can anyone comment on which speakers might work better in a room 15' x 12' with an 8ft ceiling height.  The speakers would be  placed

on the 12 ft side of the room. Would the Song Towers with the ribbon tweeters work better or would the new HT1- TL be okay?

The room is on the smaller side, so I am not sure if the HT1-TL's bass would be too much. Please give me your input. Thanks

Either speaker is likely to work just fine in that space.  I wouldn't worry about the HT1-TL's.  The bass would be just fine.

Well, the good news is I received one of my HT1-TL's today -- the bad news is that for some reason I have to wait until tomorrow for the next one to show up...What a tease! I guess the FedEx people must have had a full truck load or something lol, but I'm guessing it just slipped past them.

So right now, I am enjoying my (single) HT1-TL... even now in mono it sounds fantastic!

The box arrived unscathed; Jim did a really good job packing this speaker up.  Lets hope my other speaker arrives tomorrow in the same condition!

I'll report back tomorrow with some pictures.. In other news I am probably going to invest in a beefier amp for these speakers, right now I really have to crank the volume control on my Onkyo A-9555 integrated to get much output.

Yeah, at 85 Watts, the A-9555 is not going to let the HT1-TLs shine. I'm using a Wyred4Sound STI-1000. It's also class D, like the Onkyo, but at 500 Watts per channel it has no trouble making my HT1-TLs sing. And take a look at the Van Alstine amps--lots of happy Salk owners use them, as does Dennis Murphy who designs the crossovers on the Salks.

Hope your second one comes soon! They really sound nice in stereo.

My speakers are supposed to ship today.   :hyper:

I've been listening to Dynaudio Contour S 1.4 while waiting.  At first these speakers sounded good, but something always just seemed a little off, and I was having major buyer's remorse.  I upgraded to an AVA ultra amp and preamp, and it made an amazing difference. Every aspect of the sound was improved, and the speakers were a joy to listen to.

Even though I am happy now with the Dynaudio speakers, I can't wait to get my new Salk HT2-TLs (rorschach edition  )

@music lover

I didn't notice your post until now, but if you're still curious on the issue of the HT1-TLs in a 12'x15' room with 8' ceilings, that's essentially what I use them in, and the bass is not overwhelming. It seems natural, extended, well defined, and very musical. The overall presentation of the HT1-TLs in my room is balanced from high to low, very detailed, non-fatiguing, and with excellent soundstage depth. One of the reasons I chose the HT1-TLs over the SongTower RTs is that the HT1-TLs seemed to produce a deeper soundstage. I felt that the more forward presentation that I heard when I demoed the SongTower RTs would not suite my smaller room well.

I noticed the same soundstaging differences when I was A-B'ing the ST and HT1's for a couple of doctors.  It must have something to do with an MTM's radiation pattern vs. an MT.  I thought the ST's had a little more "snap" in their presentation, but the HT1 TL's definitely presented a deeper sound stage.

Dennis,
What about HT2-TL vs HT1-TL ? Which speaker would present the deeper sound stage?
How about HT4 and HT3?

Thanks,
Art

I've never had a pair of HT2 TL's in my room to compare with the HT1 TL's.  But I can't think of any particular reason why the HT2 would have a deeper soundstage than the ST's, and since I thought the HT1's imaged a little deeper than the ST's, maybe the same would hold for the HT2's.  But I doubt that it's a big deal.  The major difference would still be in a more authoritative bass from the HT2's.  But there's no question that the HT4's image deeper than the HT3's.  That's just due to the HT4's open back mid.

Yay!   Then, you will need to take a few weeks off to listen to your SongTowers.  That was very quick turnaround.  You only ordered those about six weeks ago.

(A few weeks off to track the delivery?  Is Jim walking them to your house?)
