Hi Dennis,If I ever had the money to purchase the HT4 would a 160 watt (8 ohms) amplifier be able to be used to drive the speakers. I really like my Son of Ampzilla and I intend on purchasing another one and use it as monoblocks. It would cost a fortune to get some as good but more powerful. Thanks for your help.RegardsRod
Hi I got the new cabinet and worked up a tentative crossover. I didn't get a new Fal driver--I think Jim and Fal are still working out the final details. I'm not sure where that stands right now. All I know is that my Fal works fine with the 10" woofer, and the only real difference between the two versions (10" vs. 12") is sensitivity. The 10" is, not surprisingly, equal to the HT3 in that regard. The 12" is between 3 and 4 dB more sensitive. I love playing with expensive toys.
What's crossover point from the 10" woofer to Fal driver?
Quote What's crossover point from the 10" woofer to Fal driver? It's around 400 Hz. The problem isn't (or wasn't) too much demand on the low-end excursion capabilities of the FAL. We're only asking the FAL to operate over a very narrow range where it's at its best. the issue was higher up and I still don't understand quite what the cause might have been.
Which measurements are those? In any event, the issue wouldn't show up in a frequency response curve. You would have to measure distortion directly at a very high input level with precisely the right frequency.
