Anybody mention: Salk Signature Sound Spartan

Kinda got the helmet shape going on, made in Michigan, and they kick ass.

Uh--They don't have a very Spartan price tag.

 Ok that gives me another Idea, (I really like the Physiology definition as well as these speakers being a sum of your guys expertise to date as well as the sum of the $$$$$   :D)

          Salk Summation(S)

1.  The act or process of adding; addition.
2. A sum or aggregate.
3. A concluding part of a speech or argument containing a summary of principal points, especially of a case before a court of law.
4. Physiology The process by which multiple or repeated stimuli can produce a response in a nerve, muscle, or other part that one stimulus alone cannot produce.

Edit: I see that OgOgilby already suggested this above so I 2nd it :thumb:

I am sure it's already been mentioned (long thread and I can't remember), but how about Salk Opus?  If it's been mentioned already, +1 from me.   :thumb:

I think the naming should follow a theme, already set by the company.

First you had Pharos ( A lighthouse) name was "old" ...
Then you had Archos , Was that the "arch" shape from a large church?
Now, obviously the naming is sort of from large shapes that many people can see!!! And from
structures that was built to last!!!

So... I guess I'm thinking along these lines ... and "Petra" ... you know the "Rock of Petra"!
I arrived at this name (this time around...) because it is like the most famous rock "face" that there is!

On top of HT4 is a Raal ribbon...
The access to Petra is through a narrow gorge in the mountain, it could be the ribbon tweeter.

Then you have the Rock face itself...

Visualized depth, hewn from flat rock... The FAL midrange...

All of this is eminating on a foundation of pure rock... the depth going down
The subwoofer part.
And now for a picture I'm sure few of you know of... in the rock of Petra, there is a shape
that resembles a subwoofer driver!!!

But since the other names ends with "os"... the name could be
Salk Petros...
The top model, the rock on which all other shapes (models) stand... the base...

Anyway...  :D

OOPS, didn't read all 14 pages
I was the guy who came up with the 'Songtower" name and the prize was a T-shirt, only they didn't have any in my size. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a free pair of these behemoths. Interesting design with the usual Salk second-to-none build quality from the looks of them.

I think alot of great names were given, but I now think that a number is needed instead of names that are used up and really I don't think that names work ANYMORE for speakers... soo..

I was thinking of a number that has good connotations and always seem to me as a good aura.. That would be ...

              The Salk Sevens

everything seems positive about this number .. Lucky Sevens, Seventh Heaven etc...

Although I am not even religious but i googled the meaning of 7 and came up with lots but this was cool :

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Overall The word Seven in the holy sense means "Completion" and let's face it

                  Salk Sevens Just sounds cool.

The number Seven seems to always give a good aura , and will always mean great in the future as it did in the past.:thumb:

Edit:: future circle post :::   What salk speakers do you have? {reply}  I have the sevens. {reply} You must be in heaven!!  {reply}  closer than you know!

  The Salk Sevens

Not necessarily giving this a vote, but here's another thing in favor of your suggestion:

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_in_Chinese_culture#Seven):
Seven

The number 7 (七, Pinyin: qī) symbolizes "togetherness". It is a lucky number for relationships. It is also recognized as the luckiest number in the West, and is one of the rare numbers that is great in both Chinese and many Western cultures. It is a lucky number in Chinese culture, because it sounds alike to the Chinese character 起 (Pinyin: qi3) meaning arise.

Not that Wikipedia is the best source of all knowledge... but that does read nicely.

I believe the number "7" also has a Biblical meaning of "perfection."

I also think Salk Signature Sound Seven has a nice ring to it, and it is visually nice, too.

Salk Model Seven.  Salk Seven.  Salk Model 7.  Just looks good.  With an explanation about "togetherness" and "good luck" or "good fortune" or "perfection" or "completion," it will be a good ad piece. I foresee reviews with quotes from Jim about the significance of the model name and the reviewer commenting how this speaker was good luck or good fortune for the audio community and perfection for Jim  (or vice-versa).

Vandy has a 7, but it is just a number, not an ethical or trade name issue, I don't think.  Marantz had a Seven.  HK, too, IIRC.  Maybe AR.

Other than Ethereal and anyone of my 39 suggestions, I like Seven the best.   :D

Oh...wait, I just realized Vandersteen recently released the Model 7.  Would that be a trademark issue?  Too bad, as Salk Signature Sound 7 has a nice ring to it

There isn't a trade name issue with a number, letter, Mark or version designation, IMO.

Seagrams has a Seven, as does Seven Up.  Mix then and have a 7 & 7.  Armalite had an AR 7 (I think that I used to own one).  Acoustic Research had an AR 7 speaker.

How about Salk Super 7?

Seven's sound cool...

(universal enough, any direct biblical reference is most likely bad business)

I considered suggesting 9's or Nines (as in "to the nines") a few weeks ago, but a quick google showed that a couple of others in the speaker world had the same idea before me.

Could just as easily go with something like:

Salk Sound Alpha

That's true.  Vandersteen's is called the Model Seven, so I guess as long as it's not that exact phrase there wouldn't be any potential for issue.

ht4 is still the beast name for the best.  or is that the best name for the beast?

all this talk about finding a name indicating this is the pinnacle of speaker design, (mine included, search the post for my prior suggestions); does this mean that salk is done, and won't ever try to come out with something even better?  i doubt it...   8)

Well, not much has been said about this design recently.

As many of you may know, we found a small problem with the FAL driver.  It was so slight that we may never have noticed it.  And it only surfaced in about 1% of the music we've played on the speaker to date. But it was simply not acceptable as is.

So we worked with FAL to address the problem.

I received an email from them yesterday indicating that our new "custom" version of the driver will be shipped in the next couple of days.  So we should have them for testing next week.

If all goes well (which FAL indicates it will), we will be ready to announce the model and start making sawdust!
