I don't think that it is discourteous to name a speaker Salk Statement when there is an existing speaker named Holtz Statement.  They are clearly not going to be confused as the same speaker, but I am not Mr. or Mrs. Holtz, and perhaps he or she would feel differently.  If there had been a Holtz SongTower prior to a Salk SongTower, that would obviously be discourteous in addition to a brand name infringement.  As a lawyer, perhaps I am better at law than courtesy, although I hope that is not the case, because I attempt to treat everyone kindly.  My apology to those who believed that my analysis suggested that any discourtesy is appropriate.

The speaker designed by Jim H. and Curt C. named the "Statement" is a DIYer speaker and not a commercial product. Also, "Statement" is a generic term, different than something like "Songtower". So, I don't see it as an issue if this name was chosen.
per my statement earlier,  8) martin logan used "statement" as a speaker name long before holtz...

I'm a good friend of Jim Holtz, and have discussed his Statement extensively with him.  As I mentioned, I used his open-back approach in the HT4 (although I had also used it before the Statement).  If I were him, I would feel a little used if the name were appropriated.   But the whole thing is moot given Martin Logan's claim to the name.

Dark as in spooky sounding, or dark as in death/black metal?

Both, actually. I really dig Tool (not always dark.. but mostly..), Cradle of Filth, In Flames, Black Sabbath, and many others on the metal side.

On the opposite side, I recently found a composer named Arvo Part (with an umlaut above the 'a', this board doesn't seem to render it) who composes modern classical music (sorry if that's not the 'exact' genre). It's pretty minimal, but definitely sounds "dark" but very beautiful. I'd highly recommend checking him out.

Edit: I also can't forget about the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach, this is a magnificent piece and I'd definitely say it's "dark". Perhaps my mind is warped?
I too like Tool and In Flames...well, at least old In Flames.  I don't listen to black metal, though.

I agree - some classical is very dark.  In fact, rock and heavy metal has strong classical roots/influences.  I will definitely check out Arvo Part.  Thanks for the tip!

if "appropriated" a product's name, and then felt "a little used" if someone else appropriated it after me, then i hope someone would tell me i was a bit off...

I'm pretty sure Jim was't familiar with the ML Statements.  Anyhow--we won't be using that name, so I think we can put this part of the thread to bed.

well, my first choice would simply be the veracity ht-4, which has awreddy been suggested.  if y'all don't wanna go down that road, then, of course, i like my suggestions of either salk epoch or salk millennium...   :green:

I posted this in another thread, but wanted to make sure everyone would see it. So I'll repeat it here...

Just a quick note on the woofer...

Earlier, I referred to it as a TC-style woofer.  I thought that this would make much more sense than saying it is a custom AE driver.  The driver was based on designs offered by TC Sounds before they passed away.

I need to give special thanks to John Janowitz of Acoustic Elegance for hanging in there and delivering a superb driver.  John made several significant improvements to the basic design, lowering distortion even lower than the original.  This driver is extremely flat and extended on both ends of the spectrum.  I doubt there is another woofer that could have performed as well in this particular design.

Thanks John for your perseverance.  Your work really paid off!

- Jim

I was reading about how Notre Dame was interested in playing games at the new Yankee Stadium.  Brought up in the article is the historic significance beyond of what I was even aware of in the old Yankee Stadium.

This story made me think how the ht3 is like the old Yankee Stadium especially to many of us AudioCircle guys and how the new Salk speakers are like the new Yankee Stadium.  Please slap me fellow New Englanders.

I started thinking about names derived from the New York Yankees and the old stadium like the Bombers, Sultans, Clippers, Joltins, Iron Horse, Buster, etc.  I am certain if someone wanted they could come up with better names.

Sorry for the post but I had to type out my thoughts this one time.

Good to see I am rubbing off on you Tyler.

Getting a New Englander to talk about the Yankees and not say they suck is quite a big positive.   :thumb:

So the HT3s are a big dilapidated structure that you sit inside and overpay for beer and hot dogs? :)

From what I hear, the old Yankee stadium was overdue for replacement. I don't think that applies to the HT3s either.
