Quote from: oneinthepipe on 20 May 2009, 02:24 pmI don't think that it is discourteous to name a speaker Salk Statement when there is an existing speaker named Holtz Statement. They are clearly not going to be confused as the same speaker, but I am not Mr. or Mrs. Holtz, and perhaps he or she would feel differently. If there had been a Holtz SongTower prior to a Salk SongTower, that would obviously be discourteous in addition to a brand name infringement. As a lawyer, perhaps I am better at law than courtesy, although I hope that is not the case, because I attempt to treat everyone kindly. My apology to those who believed that my analysis suggested that any discourtesy is appropriate. The speaker designed by Jim H. and Curt C. named the "Statement" is a DIYer speaker and not a commercial product. Also, "Statement" is a generic term, different than something like "Songtower". So, I don't see it as an issue if this name was chosen.

Quote from: Nuance on 20 May 2009, 03:36 pmDark as in spooky sounding, or dark as in death/black metal? Both, actually. I really dig Tool (not always dark.. but mostly..), Cradle of Filth, In Flames, Black Sabbath, and many others on the metal side.On the opposite side, I recently found a composer named Arvo Part (with an umlaut above the 'a', this board doesn't seem to render it) who composes modern classical music (sorry if that's not the 'exact' genre). It's pretty minimal, but definitely sounds "dark" but very beautiful. I'd highly recommend checking him out.Edit: I also can't forget about the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Bach, this is a magnificent piece and I'd definitely say it's "dark". Perhaps my mind is warped?

I'm a good friend of Jim Holtz, and have discussed his Statement extensively with him. As I mentioned, I used his open-back approach in the HT4 (although I had also used it before the Statement). If I were him, I would feel a little used if the name were appropriated. But the whole thing is moot given Martin Logan's claim to the name.
I'm pretty sure Jim was't familiar with the ML Statements. Anyhow--we won't be using that name, so I think we can put this part of the thread to bed.

I was reading about how Notre Dame was interested in playing games at the new Yankee Stadium. Brought up in the article is the historic significance beyond of what I was even aware of in the old Yankee Stadium. This story made me think how the ht3 is like the old Yankee Stadium especially to many of us AudioCircle guys and how the new Salk speakers are like the new Yankee Stadium. Please slap me fellow New Englanders.I started thinking about names derived from the New York Yankees and the old stadium like the Bombers, Sultans, Clippers, Joltins, Iron Horse, Buster, etc. I am certain if someone wanted they could come up with better names.Sorry for the post but I had to type out my thoughts this one time.

From what I hear, the old Yankee stadium was overdue for replacement. I don't think that applies to the HT3s either.
