I've got a patch of leather, which is a Dark Merlot or Black Cherry color, I'll be putting that in the tweeter recess area, then I'll head out to Lowe's and get them to color match it with some gloss paint.  I think they'll look great, once I've finally done with them :)

Sorry I missed this post when it first came out.  Will these speakers replace your RM40's?

Tyson's insanity is my gain. The 40s are MUCH happier with me. Bi-amped by the DCX to perfection! (soon to be triamped). They are being fed by the Bella Extreme for the mids and the QSC for the lows, perfect combo of beauty and power. Also they have much more room to perform in my setup which makes the biggest difference.

Agreed.  I had the 40's sounding pretty good in my space, after a few years of tweaking them and dialing them in.  But when we moved them to Jason's living room, they immediately sounded better than they ever had in my home.  His space is just more conducive to large speakers like that.  Now that he's been dialing them in for a few months and upgrading his system, it's pretty amazing sounding.  I'm not jealous, because they would never sound that good in my home, due to seating and placement limitations that I have.

On the other hand, the Elsinores are the perfect size for my room, and with the new tweeter and the recent dialing in I've done to the crossover, they sound better than the 40's did.  There's something to be said for having an appropriately sized speaker for your listening space.

We've had family visiting over the past couple of weeks, so no progress on getting the leather & paint applied, but hopefully I'll make some headway in the next couple of weeks or so.  I'll post pics as I do make progress.

I should be doing final assembly tomorrow, so more glue on Saturday!  But tonight (Friday), lots of Aberlour has been consumed ;)

Hello Tyson,

Thanks for taking us along on this journey - it was very educational to me. I'm building a pair of Elsinores myself and have some difficulty figuring out how to counter-sink the tweeter. I noticed the circle you routed before drilling the 3" magnet whole, but I could not find an explanation if how you did the routing.

Could you kindly say a few words about that?

Thanks,
Francois

We used a router to make a counter sink recess. It's honestly the only way to do it as far as I know. If you don't have one you may want to find a buddy who does. Some hardware places will do it for you if you ask the right person nicely.
