Is there a D200 MKII?
« on: 20 Apr 2009, 07:36 pm »
I was wondering if there is  a new version of these amps. The size is particularly important for my setup, hopefully it will remain as compact as it is now!

I too am interested in D200 mk2 amps, after hearing the D500mk2 in Denver 08. Is the product still on track?
Thanks

Yes, we will debut D200 MKII at the RMAF 2009. These will be a 200w version of D500 MKII and will sell for $3500 per pair.

We will post photos and more info when available (4-6 weeks).

Will the original D 200 be upgradeable?

Wow, that's a very large price increase over the D-200 Mk I (roughly a 50% increase).

Is there a substantial improvement with the Mk II's?

Taking a big guess here, trying to remember how Dusty answered all my questions about D500mk2 at RMAF. I think I remember that the D500 is a bridged design, I think it has 2 UcD400s inside, although they are thoroughly "Dustyfied" modded from stock UcD modules. So if the same approach is applied to D200 mk2 using two smaller UcD modules instead of one as in previous version, the price increase makes sense.  But it does move the amp into loftier value territory.  Can't wait to hear it.

No, the MKII's are completely different products...not an upgraded version of the original.

Will the original stay in production for those that can't afford the MKII?

Yes...

The original D-200 took the D-100 design to it's maximum and offers excellent performance, especially for the cost.

We've gained a wealth of experience since the release of the original D-100 in 2005, and also listened to requests/suggestions from our customers.

The result is D-200 MKII. The new model uses the same chassis as D-500 MKII and has many other similarities.
The heart of the new model is the power supply...the transformer is 3 times the size of the original, power rail capacitance has been doubled, and employs separate windings and individually regulated low-voltage stages. Our SmoothStart & XDC-2 circuits are also now built-in. Other new features include single-ended RCA and balanced XLR input, and 12v DC trigger input/output.

We're still tweaking the final version, but so far I'm very pleased with the results.

The original D-200 will be replaced by the MKII, but D-100 will remain and now has XDC-2 circuit built-in.

Thanks Dusty.

With such a substantial level of improvement and price change, maybe a new name and not simply a MK II status is in order?

Best of luck with the new amp and I hope to hear it at RMAF 2009.
