Center Channel Questions
« on: 1 Apr 2009, 11:55 pm »
I have a pair of OB/7's and would like to have a timbre matching center channel. I have been waiting for the N3 series but have serious reservations about it filling a large room and its F3.

My current center has two 5" drivers and dome tweeter but is a ported design and goes down to 40Hz.

Danny do you have any plans of something in between using a single OB/7 as a center and the N3? Was hoping for something a little more ominous.  Thanks

Hey Nick77,
Food for thought that occured to me while also wondering about a centre channel with a touch more extension: The OB-5 bass section uses the same drivers as the Neo-3, and is ported, with a bit of creativity you could re-shape it and add the tweeter and you would have your Neo-3 with a 3dB somewhere in the low 40's?   :D

Hey guys,

The N3 has the same sensitivity as the OB-5 and OB-7 and will match nicely.

90% of everything a center plays is dialog and the N3 will play plenty low for that. With the surface reflections of a TV screen and entertainment system it is almost like a wall mounted speaker in some cases. This will increase the low end output a little. In room responses could be -3db down in the mid 60's.

If you want though you could also build a side laying OB-5 or OB-7 like one of these.
