I don't mean to be a downer, but in the spirit of bucking the overly-positive Flickr commentary theme, I have to say those photos tend to inhabit the realm of suck.  Sure it's a cool concept, but damn, the photos are just kinda lame.  It's like, how much cool analog crud is TOO much?  Maybe they are better in person.  :dunno:

Dunno either, Nathan, but aside from some late 19th-early 20th century-style charm, I ain't impressed either.  I thought the point of ULF is to make the most of its potential, not dumb it down.  I shoot 4x5 and 8x10 sporadically, BTW.

While the content isn't very exciting in most of the pictures, I enjoy the way the brushed-on chemicals work with the picture.

It has to do with detail I think, or the lack thereof.  Sure these are huge prints, but they're so blurry and distorted.  There's no real useful detail within the image.  They might as well have been taken with a cell phone camera.  But hey, more power to 'em if he can fetch a grand per print.  Then again if soft, blown-out silver prints are your thing, I know a guy who can hook you up for a lot cheaper!

Hey!

I ain't Ansel but technically these are not that great.

I guess this have to do more with the size than other things and maybe there is more to it when viewing it in person.

But of course you could make large mural print from a better 4X5 to 8X10 LF also. :D Well, still I have to give it to the guys for going through all of trouble. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:
