Neo-1X sealed?
« on: 8 Mar 2009, 04:14 am »
Hey Danny,
A question just occurred to me: If you took a Neo-1x and made a sealed box how would it go?
As the midrange response of the Neo-1x is really smooth and as sealed boxes are (always?) smaller, I was wondering how this might go as a 5.1 set up with the servo subby?
How small could you make the sealed box?
What sort of -3dB might this give you?
Would the difference in size/ response make this worthwhile over the 2x?
And would the -3dB be so high that you would pretty much have to have your sub sitting underneath them to make this blend together?
As I said, just a thought,
Thanks,
Todd

Sort of my original question for Danny as well, but then I went with the 2X and then made the mini-towers left and right for when I go music only (and for that purpose they verily do shine).

The Neo-2 are, well, real nice, especially with a Servo Sub. If I were to do it again I would go with a complete "sealed" system with a servo. I would still probably go with the 2Xs up front.

But I'm thinking about the Neo-1s for my office...maybe, but I'll probably go ported since there's no sub.

And from the Random thoughts page: I'm pretty sure that the THX desired crossover point is 80HZ, and so, you can certainly go smaller. I think I've got my system crossing over at 40 right now. Yep, lovin' me some Gr-Research Neo-2X mini-towers..

If you need them to be used in a sealed application then I'd recommend the Neo-2X.

Thanks Guys,
I knew the 2x would be an easier solution, just wondered if you would lose enough size in the boxes to make it really worthwhile. Probably not worth the effort though.
Thanks again
(P.S. I hate looking at the size of unit that I can actually afford now that I am looking to buy   :(   )
