Can you improve Duet's S/PDIF output?
« on: 3 Mar 2009, 09:26 pm »
Do any of you guys think the Duet's S/PDIF out can be improved with an outboard box, such as the Monarchy DIP or similar. If so, I would be running the "improved" S/PDIF signal into a non-oversampling DAC. I suppose that should be taken into account as well. Also, all of my digital music is stored as 16/44.1 AIFF.

:D I appreciate everyone's opinion on the subject of the Duet's digital output.  :D

Some DACs address jitter onboard, so a go-between box isn't necessary. Other dejittering go-betweens like Empirical Pace Car or Altmann JISCO are available for DACs that don't comb out jitter well enough. A good power supply upgrade will also help the digital output.

I use Altmann Attraction DAC (without JISCO option and non-oversampling.) It has a dejittering input section that makes all digital transports and cables sound the same. When I auditioned it with the JISCO option I couldn't hear any difference.
