Calculating total RMS, SPL, Ohms in line array
« on: 1 Mar 2009, 01:09 pm »
Hey fellas,
A local guy sent me a note asking some basic question. Slightly embarrassed I couldn't answer, so I thought I'd come here to gain some knowledge. Line array stuff just isn't "my bag", but I'm still a little surprised I couldn't do the calculations.

Here's his note:
If you design a system with multiple woofers (say 6 inch for example) and you have 3 to 6 of them does each speaker's
RMS total the whole capacity of the speaker?
IE: 5 PC 6" woofer at 65 rms/ 100 watt max does this equate to 325 watts plus the tweeter?
And is this ran in series or parallel ?
Any recommendation on a good guide book to best describe this and crossover selections.

He didn't ask, but he'll also need to know how to calculate total speaker resistance.

My recommendation for a book was "The Speaker Design Cookbook".

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys
Bob
