I'm being a bit of a bastard: Anything south of The Fault Line (SF-Oakland and lower) I consider Southern California. I like it up in Humboldt, etc. (Which everybody else in the state considers Southern Oregon...)

Not a bastard, just geographically challenged. By the way, my youngest son is going to Humboldt State this fall and I'm thankful to be paying Cali tuition rates and not Oregonian rates.

Cali tuition rates are historically great. Humboldt State is a very nice school. My ex-wife is Art Department faculty. Don't know what your son is majoring in, but, she's a great teacher (I may be a touch biased).

Just came across this thread and started downloading some flac 16 and flac 24 files....thanks for the heads up.   I used to have horrible quality cassettes from Dead shows in the 60s and 70s and can't wait to hear some of the good stuff recommended here.

Everybody knows that Southern California starts below San Luis Obispo.

As someone who attended UCSC, and actually worked at that library for a short time, I can tell you it has much more in common with Humboldt than it does with LA.

Still waiting for the new SB Touch! Soon! I know it.

Wow, my NorCal SoCal comment(s) sure got some traction. I WAS KIDDING! I was born in Alameda, did some early growing up in San Diego & Pacific Grove, and a few years ago, almost wound up staying in Eureka.

I've listened to the whole run in 24-bit. They sound FanFreakinTastic(tm). I know I'm being naughty, but the 24-bit sound too good for me to bother with a 24- vs. 16-bit comparison. If I want to dump the shows to CD, I've never had any problems with down-converting.

Hey Now!

I just got the 24-bit version downloaded a little while ago. I've only gotten through the first two tracks, and my head is about to explode. Sweet Baby Jesus, this is the best sounding live Dead tape I have ever heard.

To the... people at Rhino: This download is the way you need to release shows: 2-channel, 24-bit, with an option to download or buy audio on DVD (_Not_ DVD-A. Rather, like Classic Records has done w/ DAD).

Putting off a full listen until later today (time for night-night).
Will be listening tomorrow!! on my SB Touch! Cant wait!!! Download faster! ;)

While casting around in the dustier corners of the InterWebs, I've gotten into some kind of NRPS jag. There is a great sounding copy of the NRPS set from 29 April 1971. No, it's not a 24-bit FLAC, but it is available at archive.org

They also have an excellent sounding Betty Board of the NRPS opening for The Boys on 26 May 1972.
