UPS > OB7

Soooo...I ordered Bill's (from Response Audio) pair of OB7 demos...beautifully done, came with external crossovers and upgraded parts...M130X upgrade for the woofers...

I had opened everything and set it up in my basement theater except for one speaker...all I needed to do was bring that last speaker down and hook up the cables from the external crossover and I was good to go.  Unfortunately, UPS basically severed the head...cracked the lower 16 ohm mid driver and the baffle is barely held on.

There are two cracks (IIRC) in the driver but I don't think they go past the screws.  Think its okay for me to set it up and play it (if the baffle will stay held on lol)?

I wouldn't, If they got whacked that hard, wires could be loose, don't damage your amp!

Since the crossover is external, the wiring is pretty simple and seems connected to the drivers just fine on the OB section.  I went ahead and hooked them up after checking with Bill....

Very nice sound...I'm honestly more amazed at how close the Neo-2X is.

I was amazed at the performance of the Neo2x also, they were like a mini version of the ob/7. I hope to include a pair as rears.

Congrats on the 7's those are a beautiful pair Bill built. Sorry to hear about the mishap.

I advised cujobob that it would be safe to hook them up only after seeing the pictures. It is the frame of the one driver that is cracked. They really did do a job on this one.
Thanks to all who commented on these speakers. Now I have to get to work building him a new pair :green: Luckily I have an OB-7 flat pack on hand.

Insured, yes, but each box was insured separately.  The crossovers in one box, each speaker separately.  So if UPS doesn't weasel their way out of this one (I've heard stories...), only $1,000 will be recovered.

I'm hoping the baffle stays on for now...one side is basically cracked through and the other side seems to be more veneer cracking with the MDF somewhat solid (crack is right in the middle of the lower OB driver, not much MDF there to keep it together).

I wonder how many issues AV123 had with shipping out the X-Statiks.

The veneer on the crossovers and speakers looks fantastic, its really such a shame as Bill did a great job on these.  And so everyone understands, Bill had overkill packaging IMO...so much syran wrap used holding different packing materials on, I joked with him that I could make Rice Crispy Treats for the rest of my life.

There isn't a lot mentioned about the OB-7s as far as specifics, other than Danny's own comparison to his line sources, but they are great...and talk about a non-fatiguing sound...all of this off of my 25 watt F5 clone so far :D  Next up, the Mcalister!

So I stayed up listening to these until about 3 am last night and after a little tweaking with the bass management, fixing some driver wire that apparently came loose in shipping, and repositioning some...I can definitely tell they're a class above the Neo 2X now...it's not 100% right just yet unfortunately.  Would dents in a driver's rubber surround affect SQ?  There are quite a few of them, but there doesn't seem to be anyway I can replace that driver as new drivers wouldn't screw in securely....will have to wait and see after UPS inspects the damage.

It's unfortunately just a big tease.
