Last night I saw one of the best live performances that I have ever seen.

I was fortunate to see Vienna on two occasions in very small venues up close.  We met her after the show and had a very nice conversation.  She's coming back to our area in April and I'll be there once again.

Here's a link to a live concert from Live Archive...it's a good one.

Hey, good link!

BradJudy

Thanks for the Archive link, I didn't know she had stuff up there.  I browsed through and found this short one that seems to have excellent sound quality after a quick sampling:

The sound quality on this one is quite good.  I haven't tried any of the others though.  I try to keep gratuitous downloading at work to a minimum. :duh:

Edit:  I had to laugh at the cell phone going off in the 10th track as well as the person walking by and the floor squeaking.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that...   I heard that Matt's favorite demo track is Womanizer...  :icon_surprised:

Saw her at DeepSouth The Bar in Raleigh. She started their Sunday Night Acoustic series... almost a year ago (something like that). :)

She has a fantastic voice - well worth going out of your way to catch her in performance.
Her CD "Dreaming Through the Noise" is very nice as well. Think she's coming out with a new one soon.

Danny,

If you had a perfect copy of the concert, which of your speakers would you choose to listen to it on?  Why?

Cheers,
Robert

When I read the title, I was so thinking Britney!  :green:

Why Britney?

Well, when you think of the antithesis of a good live show, a washed up drugged out lip syncing has been pop princess who never had much talent to begin with is the first thing that comes to mind.  Well, all that, or just the word Britney.

OK OK, it could just be me.  Craig says I need to see a shrink for my av123 anger, so maybe I will ask about the Britney thing while I am there! :D

Just saw Mr. Martin Sexton at the Town Hall in Manhattan.

One amazing performer and songwriter. Lots of fun!

The Vienna Teng concert was indeed a masterful performance.  I sat left of center, 2nd row, in order to have a better view of her fingerwork at the keyboard.  Indeed, her voice is wonderfully expressive, keyboard skills show years of professional training, writes insightful lyrics, and haunting tunes.  My only complaint was the acoustics of the venue and mixing.  From my seat, lyrics were muffled and the lower register piano boomy.  It was a bit of a let down since her recordings are crystal clear. I asked my wife if it was just me, but she had the same impression.
They recorded the concert, but I'll wait for her next studio album to be released in April.

As to which of Danny's speakers would best show her skills,  all of them :D.  I have never been to Danny's that he wasn't playing a Vienna Teng song or two to demo his newest creation. But that new open baffle design does an amazing job with piano.

Vienna just sent me an e-mail about her new album release and tour dates coming up. If she is anywhere near you don't miss her show.

Hi Danny -

Hello from Germany! After a truly life-changing week in the Caribbean aboard Cayamo (more on that later), Alex and I exchanged sunscreen for scarves and boarded a plane for Europe. Now we've met up with our newest bandmate, cellist/guitarist Ward Williams, and kicked off the CD release tour to a packed house here in Berlin.

We'll be on the road all the way 'til May 16, and hopefully coming to a city near you! Full list of cities below (additional details at http://viennateng.com/tour).

U.S. folks can pre-order the album in the merch store:
http://www.scarabcart.com/cgi-bin/viennateng/item.cgi?id=172&csid=186418

To preview the album online, check out Rounder's _Inland Territory_ jukebox:

http://www.jukeboxalive.com/audio_play_offsite_message.php?mid=2023497&skin=1232381&method=play

Then share it with your friends if you like what you hear.

Off to catch a few hours of sleep...more later.

Much love,
VT

P.S. Scrapbook post is coming, I promise. With photos, even.

Sorry Hugh, just saw this.  If I happen to be in LA I'd go for sure, let me see what my calendar says.  I'll mail you.
