"Taken"
« on: 14 Feb 2009, 08:15 pm »
Wife came back from San Diego with an illness and I decided to go to the movies and watch "Taken."  Basically, this movie is Jason Bourne packaged a little differently.  Storyline is a retired CIA Specialist is divorced and has a 17 year old daughter that lives with her mother and rich step father.  The girl goes off to spend a summer in Europe with a 19 year old friend.  She is abducted by Albanians in the sex slave trade and story is about the unbelievable exploits of the father searching for his daughter.  Film quality was okay but not what we are typically used to seeing.  Acting was pretty good with almost non-stop action.  The only twist is this is a father with special skills seeking a kidnapped daughter.  Otherwise we have seen it many times before.  It was entertaining so I will give it a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

I had so many guys telling me how great this movie was, I was pumped to see it. I wasn't disappointed but I also wouldn't call it a great movie. 3 out of 5 stars is a fair assessment.

Cheers,

I just saw the trailer and realized Maggie Grace plays the daughter.   I didn't recognized her at first because she dyed her hair for the movie.  For anyone who doesn't know who she is, she was on the cast of "Lost" the first two seasons.  Now I'm definitely going to see the movie.

Mariusz,

That won't prevent me from seeing the movie just to see Maggie Grace.

It wasn't my intention Paul. It could have been OK movie if it wasn't for the 2nd part that sucked.........I am sure you are going to enjoy the auction part then..........

i liked it a lot.  it sheds light on the black market which is so prevalent in the world, yet everyone chooses to ignore it.  great eye opened as well as acting, as always from liam.

I saw Taken on DVD about 3 months ago. I have a region free player and a store near me rents international DVDS .
TAKEN came out in Europe about a year ago.

I thought it was worth a rental, glad I didn't pay theatre prices to see it.

Thanks for that cool link, looks like a good site.

I think they are still bound by release dates, though.

I watch a lot of foreign films which is why I got an international player, I usually get to see foreign films up to a year before they officially come here.

Another reason I bought a 60" TV  :duh:

Saw this the other night via that link...I thought it was pretty good for an action movie, even though the story line is such a 'blight' on humankind. It does illustrate the cultural 'depravation' of an ancient society(think mentality) in its treatment/value of fellow beings.
The hero prevails over the "evil-doers". <applause cue>

Anyone try that satelite TV on your PC option on this link?

Apparently America has been Taken by the best action movie of the year (yeah it's only February).

Very Strange site???

Obviously there must be fees, but they don't post them and want you to give them your e-mail and register before they disclose the pricing.

Anyone know how the pricing works at Movie6.net?

I saw it the next day, thanks to Chris for the website.  I thought it was a good action movie, but didn't like the ending.  At the point where Liam is captured, but somehow miraculously avoids being killed, that was a little too much.  Too much like "Bond" with that scene.

Just take it as a "movie", concocted in a Hollywood back room, Bourne duplicate or not.......  The tricks Liam can do scared me.  Are spies THAT super-humanoid? 2.5/5. :duh:

Might be the all time movie for blowing up badguys.  About 40 seems to me and one on one at that.  Nasty bad guys.
