     A category of T-amps is available that require a power supply of 30V.  Both the Winsome mouse and Virtue Audio amps are selling/providing a SWPS to power their amps.  Is there any chance you'll be developing a power supply to drive these amps?  Thank you in advance.

Hello Jim,

I can provide you with an up-rated SR3 power supply (same high performance circuit topology), providing 30 volts DC at 3.3 amps continuous (100VA) with a 20 amps peak (600VA) transient delivery. This would have to be in a larger case than the SR3 due to the transformer size and thermal requirements. The 20 amps transient delivery will allow increased power delivery into low impedance loads.

I will designate this the SR5 power supply and it is available in a wide range of custom voltage and current ratings. The price for the SR5-30 is £370 and insured carriage and packing will be charged at cost.

Hi JK,

In answer to your question about a suitable HT regulator for the BDT preamp in the Lab thread "Two simple Current Amplifiers for low impedance loads" I would suggest a high voltage version of my PR3 topology. It's quiet, fast and works well with push-pull transformer coupled valve stages. The PR3 has rectification and energy storage on board.

The PR3H configured for an output voltage of 130 volts costs £90.

Out of interest I have some older PR3D regulators that I could modify for 130 volts that I could let you have for £60 each. It is exactly the same circuit but the H version has been re-sized to take more advantage of surface mount devices. My three year guarantee will still apply and if you are not happy with the performance you can return them for a full refund.

But you picked me up wrong - I already have a high voltage regulator (130 & 250V) for the BDT preamp - it's on the schematic I posted just scroll to the right.

What I was asking for was a 45V 5A PS for the CIRC1 amplifier

Hi JK,

Sorry, I missed that. I have another module designated PR3HD (same circuit but Heavy Duty) that I can set up for 45 volts 5 amp. Actually it will deliver a considerably higher transient current. You would need to mount the modules on a heatsink and I will work out the thermal requirements for you when I prepare the bias information for the lateral mosfets (probably next Saturday). You will need four modules as the output stage power supplies for the CIRC1 topology must be independent from each other as they take their reference from different points in the output stage circuit. I will e-mail the cost details to you.

I tried one of Paul's 12V supplies with a TCElectronic Konnekt 8 audio interface. It works very, very well. Pushes the good Konnekt 8 to another league entirely. Kind a strange to see how much a PS has an influence on a pro audio interface which costs less than the PS itself

I've come to the realisation a while ago just how important the power supplies are in the accurate reproduction of audio. My first taste of this was with Greg Balls's SKA amplifiers where one of the major contributors to the great sound of these amps is the high PSRR built into the design. Any time since that I've improved the power supply in analog or digital equipment, I've noticed the improvement.

But, as Paul has identified, some good PS work for some situations & not others- there is no universally good PS for all situations.

It actually makes me want to explore parallel SLA batteries more as a viable alternative!

I have had a number of enquiries about regulators for use with the TP Buffalo DAC. There are a number of regulators required for the full upgrade shown on various forums and buying them individually is quite expensive relative to the cost of the DAC. I can offer a regulator kit consisting of the following 6 regs :

1 off Z1A-05 positive medium power shunt reg for Digital VD
1 off S1701v2 positive mini series reg for DAC core
1 off Z1703v3 positive mini shunt reg for 80MHz Oscillator
1 off Z1703v3 positive mini shunt reg for digital and analogue supplies for the DAC
1 off Z1A-15 positive medium power shunt reg for analogue VA
1 off Z1N-15 negative medium power shunt reg for analogue VA

The above six regulators are offered at a kit price of 200 GBP which is a considerable saving.

Those wishing to separate the left right analogue 15 volt rails into mono supplies can also order the additional Z1 regs for this :

Can expand on what particular regulators you are using directly ON the Buffalo 32 board itself? I see about 5 "mini" regulators. I think three of them are for DAC core, 80MHz oscillator and digital/analogue supplies for the DAC chip respectively.

I am assuming the bottom 5 large regulators on your chassis are the medium power shunt regulators (Z1A series), specifically for analogue VA (dual mono +/-) and the digital VD.

Wow, that's a total of 10 regulators! 

Excellent build, very state of the art. Manufacturers, take a look  , this is quality work.

Thank you for your kind words, I wanted to see what could be squeezed out of this dac,  after trying various other regs,  alternative parts etc I came to the conclusion Pauls regs gave the biggest most noticeable gains in performance,  the more you add the better it gets   

Regs added are as mentioned in Pauls post plus a few extra's

1 off Z1A-8v5 positive medium power shunt reg used as a pre reg for onboard regs
1 off S1701v2 positive mini series reg for DAC core
1 off Z1703v3 positive mini shunt reg for 80MHz Oscillator
