What's the "newest" SqueezeCenter I can use w/ FW15?

The subject pretty much says it all...  Because of how I use my system, I can't flip the speaker wires to address the polarity flip from my Bolder modded SB2.  So I need to stick w/ FW15 (as far as I know).  I'd like to use the most "modern" SqueezeCenter I can on the server side though.  I've been using 6.2 for a LONG time, but its starting to act flaky and I want to reinstall the SqueezeBox server software and rebuild my database.  I figured it'd be a good time to upgrade the server software (if I can).

Thanks!

I posted a similar queery in the 7.4 beta thread, but have ploughed on regardless. I have installed 7.4 beta  which prompted a firmware 'upgrade' and installed something like version 141! Once I had copied version 15 to the firmware folder in the Squeeze Centre directory, Mike's (mgalusha) firmware selector let me go back to 15.

It runs. I can't possibly say how it sounds yet, and I have an issue with a second squeeze box that  was connected yesterday ( and had the firmware cycled) but now won't connect at all to the wireless network.

So I'm still pondering.

You might like to try out the Inguz DRC plug-in for the SB.  It has an "Invert Polarity" filter that you might find very useful for your situation.  This would give you the ability to invert phase on your SB without affecting your other sources.

Great suggestion, Brett.

The Inguz program will also let you play with room eq.

I am not aware of any software solutions from Logitech to the phase inversion of analog modded SB2 and 3.

The developers at Logitech have made great strides in their software and usability. While you might be able to get firmware 15 to work with 7.4, you will be crippling some of the features.

There are electrical ways to maintain correct phase. The easiest is to use an external DAC. The digital output of the SB is always in phase. I have yet to hear an external DAC that sounds as good as an analog modded SB with a good power supply, but if this phase issue is important to you, a external DAC may solver your problem.

If you are using a TT and SB combo, you can reverse the polarity on your speaker wires and also reverse the polarity of your phono cartridge wiring to come out with everything in phase.

Another option is to use a line level transformer. The transformer will isolate the + and - leads and you can reverse the output wire to maintain correct phase. You can get a step-up transformer to raise the voltage level of the modded SB. The drawback is that current is lost. You should use very short connecting cables.

A lot of tube pre-amps invert phase. I have a prototype tube analog section that increases gain, inverts phase and sounds very good. Unfortunately no chassis for it yet.

Thanks.... I'll give that a shot... It certainly would be the most straight forward way to deal w/ this.  My only concern is that I'm running the SqueezeCenter on an old laptop and even though I'm "only" trying to invert phase, I hope my 'puter can handle it.

Just a bit of an update on this...  I tried loading the latest SqueezeCenter on my old laptop and sure enough it basically didn't have the horsepower to run it decently.  I was in the midst of a computer upgrade anyway on my "main" computer, so as part of that I built up a "new" server in my basement (far away from the stereo so I can listen in silence) made up of parts from what WAS my "main" computer.  This machine has plenty of horsepower to run SqueezeCenter, so I got that up and running and upgraded to the latest firmware on my modded SB2.  ...and my stereo sounded a little funny as it was now phase inverted.

I then loaded up the Inguz plug-in and then added the Invert Polarity module.  Then I turned that module on w/ my remote, restarted the sever (again) and what do you know, it worked!  Sounds great, and its nice to have some of the new feature of the latest server software (like being able to jump around in a track).

On a side note, one other plug-in I liked before and have loaded up again is SuperDateTime (http://gregbrown.net/squeeze/superdatetime.htm).  Among other things, you can have it show the current weather outside when your SB is off (or on FWIW).  I didn't realize how much I looked at that until my SB was down during all the re-configuring.

Cheers
