Next series of 32" LCDs (720p, composite still?)
« on: 3 Feb 2009, 04:45 pm »
I don't follow the TV market the way I do the audio one. Anyone know if the next series of 32" LCD TVs will still offer just 720p resolution and at least one composite connection?

I'd like 120 hz and the new backlight technology, but want the 720 and composite more. The Sony L4000 and the Samsung 450 models are in closeout pricing now, so I would have to spring for them soon if the replacements will not offer 720 and composite.

Thanks.

I can understand your wish for 720p at 32" but not composite inputs as a dealbreaker. Unless you have an old video game platform, ancient DVD player or (even more ancient) VHS deck - component would be way better than composite video. To ease your mind though I'd imagine composite video ins will be around on TVs for awhile yet (if AVR ins are any indication).

Of course the current models do have component inputs (along with the composite,) as will the next generation have component inputs. The question is whether the next generation will drop composite inputs...I do have a VHS player with only composite outputs.

Until your post I didn't think to check new VCRs for what connections they have these days.

I doubt you'll find an affordable VCR with component outs - s-video yes. S-video is still better PQ than composite. As for the future inclusion of composite on TVs re-read the last sentence of my previous post. If you want better PQ for on newer VHS deck look for one with s-video.
