I received my pair of Usher's yesterday, and I couldn't be more pleased.
Flawless fit-n-finish; they must have been CNC built. Obviously, I haven't had time to break them in yet, but they sound great right out of the box, and very impressive bass. Bye Bye little ProAc's.
Best $200 I ever spent. I'm going to check to see if there is another pair left.

THANKS AGAIN J'MAN FOR THE TIP!  :D

I won't know the full potential of the Ushers until they have burned in. But they are close enough to the Tabs, that it's yust not worth the difference in $$$ for a second system. If I were looking at them as my main speakers, I'd approach it differently. Once they are broken in, I will do a head to head comparison.

That Korsun/Usher should be a killer setup, but I'll bet it will be too good for an office system - it may be too hard to get any work done

jackman and audiojerry,

Thanks for the tip on the Usher S-520's.  After my first pair got demolished by Fed EX, I picked up the last pair from Feyz on AudioGon.   Just gave these a listen this past weekend with the Sharp SG-11, plenty of power to drive these speakers to reasonable listening levels in a small to medium sized room.

The treble was a little hot, but after some time I expect it to tame down a bit.  Other than that, sounded pretty damn sweet with the 1-bit digital Sharpie.

My son wanted a "really good boom box" for Christmas (bad genes?) - isn't he going to be surprised when he gets a real system.

You are very welcome.  Your son has a pretty cool looking system, hopefully it sounds as good as it looks.  Jerry said his speakers really loosened up and sounded better with some break-in.  Let us know how they work out.  I blew it, and didn't get a pair.  Still kicking myself.

my 12-yr-old dawtah yust opened her "boombox"set-up for x-mas, that she's wanted so badly, & it's cranking in the living room.   :o   i yust got finished showing her, (in the basement), the s-520's & the korsun (red rose) integrated i picked up real cheep from hong-kong, for an office rig.  i begged her to consider it for her room, along w/outboard tuna & cdp.  she still wants the boombox - sound quality isn't as important as looks!  mebbe it will hit her one day...

actually, the jvc mini-rig "santa" brought her ain't half-bad, but for only a few dollars more, the korsun/usher based rig will great in its own right, i'm sure...

holly hippodaze to all...

Everything is hooked up on his desk and sounding VERY nice.  Played him some of the tunes on the Usher demo disc (very well done) including the intro "Richard Strauss Also Zprach Zarathustra Don Quixote" - his eyes became very, very big.  Another audiophile has been born.
