I would be very interested in what you think of the RWA vs the First Watt when you get that opportunity.
The F5 may not be appropriate for your configuration, but you did ask for my thoughts regarding the First Watt F5 versus the RWA 30.2, so after a few days with the F5 I thought it was time to respond.
My system consists of the Red Wine Audio Isabella line stage and DAC. As source, I used an old Powerbook 12", iTunes, and the USB DAC input of the Isabella. My speakers are the Zu Druid Mk IV, with the 08 drivers, and the Zu Mini-Method active sub-woofer.
The RWA 30.2 and the F5 are more alike than they are different, and while one may do better in one area than the other, both are incredibly capable all around performers.
The First Watt F5 is more dynamic, especially at lower levels. It's simply stunning how good the F5 sounds at low volume. Detail freaks should rejoice as the F5 delivers a highly, highly resolved performance without sounding at all sterile. In contrast, what the 30.2 gives up in low level dynamics and a little detail, it makes up for in sound stage, body, and warmth.
The stock JJ tubes that come with the Isabella line stage are, to my ears, both micro-dynamically and macro-dynamically challenged, so with the stock JJs in place, I preferred the F5. However, when I switched to the NOS Siemens 7308 tubes, I preferred the 30.2.
If I had to live with only one amplifier long term, it would be the 30.2, but the F5 is a real keeper too. Your choice will no doubt hinge on system synergy and personal preference. Both amplifiers are excellent.
