I just installed this and my very few 24/96 files now play just fine and sound very, very good!

Give it a try and let the rest of us know what you think.

Link to SqueezeCenter 7.3.2 beta
Sorry for the ignorance, but which of >THESE< eleven files are you downloading?
I'm needing just a little "101" on how to get the 7.3.2 beta software as opposed to doing the automatic way SC wants me to, which is the 7.3.1. version.

Thanks fellas,
Bob

Download the .EXE file and run it on your pc.  The software will take care of the rest.

Ok, good deal George. Thanks man!  :thumb:

I thought maybe that was right, but the ZIP file threw me off. Thought their might be something in there I needed.

There is now the choice of a 7.4 also, would one want to choose the higher number? Thanks

3rd party plugins don't work yet, so I probably wouldn't go there just yet.

Dthoms,
Most of the newer (and even the cheap ones) DVD players output 24/96 and up to 24/192 via digital out.  It's set in the "LPCM output" part of the menu structure.  I use this feature to send 2 channel 24/96 DVD-Audio (yes, MLP even) to my Modwright Transporter tubed dac.  If it's regular DVD-Video 24/96 you can even rip it (via DVD-Audio Extractor, for example).  I do this for DVD-V sides of HDAD's (Muddy Waters, Cannonball Adderley, Pete Townshend) and for 24/96 DVD-V's like Neil Young's stuff (Live at Massey, Greatest hits, etc.).

ted_b,  I downloaded dvd audio extractor.  It looked like it was going to work, then threw an error about the cd writer.  I was initially happy with the lplex, but my HDTrack flac's threw errors too.  I've spent the day trying to get this to work.  I'm trying dvd2one now.

I have been able to get the 24/96 disk to work.  This was after MUCH work.  I tried using the windows dvd maker, but the disks were only outputting 24/48.  I am in the middle of, hopefully, my last test.

Workflow so far...

Download 24/96 file
Convert to wav using dBpoweramp
create DVD using dvd2one

If anyone has anything better, i'd certainly appreciate it.

You're talking about the 5.3M file called SqueezePlay-setup.exe, right?
This doesn't look like a minor little file to fix some bugs, it looks like an entirely new user interface.
In fact, it reminds me a LOT of Windows Media Center.
I can't get through the networking questions, so I haven't got very far yet..

Thanks

Bob,
Squeezeplay is just a little media player so you can play Squeeze center on you own pc if you want.  The actual software for Squeeze Center is the third one down, the large 41M .exe file called SqueezeCenter7.3.2

 :duh: Ok, thank you Ted. I was thinking things didn't look right, so I stopped messing with it.
Actually, this answers another question I hadn't asked yet (and wasn't planning on asking here), is that my wife's PC needs access to my server and I've had a hard time getting it done.
Got the hypothetical 'two birds with one stone' here.

Thanks!!  :thumb:

I have downloaded 7.3.2 but am unable to play 24/96 WAV files on my SB3.
Chris H.

This will work with the SB2, SB3, SBR and Transporter

It downsamples the 24/96 files to 24/48.

The SB software has always been able to play 24 bit.

The Transporter has a larger buffer so it can natively play 24/96

Chris,
Did you update the SB3 firmware first?

Sorry Chris,

I should have added that the 24/96 files have to be in .flac for this beta software to work.

My fault. I am just so used to people using .flac with SqueezeCenter that I don't think about the other formats.

I have noticed a problem since I moved to this beta version.

When I run a scan and update (not a complete wipe out of the existing list of albums/songs) it is taking hours to complete.  While I have a fairly large music collection (3000+ albums and almost 40,000 songs), everything worked fine before the upgrade.

Has anybody else had any issues?

I know this is Beta software and don't expect it to work flawlessly, just checking to see if anybody else has seen this issue.

Wayne:
I had a feeling it was FLAC dependant and that is why I included that they were WAV files. I tried changing the file section setting to convert WAV to FLAC for streaming, but this still didn't work. Thanks.

Works like a charm, thanks again guys!
Sounds very good indeed.  aa I can't turn it up very loud since the family is still sleeping, but so far I'm impressed.

Regarding playing WAV files, didn't the old version support WAV?
I swear I've had WAV files playing on the SB3 with older versions of SC.
Unless there was something done behind the scenes I was unaware of that did a conversion for me?? But I kinda doubt that.

Chris, if memory serves, Media Monkey of Foobar can convert WAV to FLAC.

Bob

EDIT: I did just notice one of the 24/96 tunes having an interesting tidbit of information;
Bitrate: 3191kbps VBR (Converted to 705.6kbps ABR)

Bob,

SqueezeCenter will still play .wav files. It just doesn't play 24/96 .wav files. This beta version will only downsample .flac encoded 24/96 files to play at 24/48.

Ok Wayne, thanks.
I thought the files where 24/96 wav though?  :dunno:
There's a good chance I might have the same disc Chris does.
