Can this remote dual as a universal volume control for other components?

I don't own one, but would doubt it, as I believe it is strictly a wifi remote, not an IR remote.

I am sure someone who owns one will chime in.

No, it only works with Slim Devices products.  It controls things via a wireless network connection (rather than infrared), so there isn't a way for it to communicate with something that isn't on the network...

Actually the Duet controller does have an IR emitter built in, it is off by default, but can be turned on (deep in a test menu) and I believe will control existing SB1/2/3 devices via IR. I got the impression that it's future implementation will be a SqueezeBox community development project. Search the SlimDevices forums to see if there has been any progress.
